Steam’s redesigned Store menu brings search, browsing, recommendations, and genre and tag hubs together in one place. Use search when you know what you want; browse by popularity, release date, price, or discount when you want options; and check personalized recommendations or hubs when you want ideas shaped around the games you play.

What changed in Steam’s Store menu?

Steam introduced the redesign in its Steam Client Beta on July 25, 2025. It combines the Store’s former left-side column and blue bar in one reorganized menu. Steam said the menu and search would be available on more Store pages, and that the menu would reappear when users scroll up slightly. The company described the aim as making frequently visited destinations easier to reach—not as a measured improvement in game discovery or sales. Steam’s July 25, 2025 announcement explains the beta changes.

Steam later said the menu had left beta and was available in the Steam client, Steam Deck, and Steam Mobile. That rollout statement does not establish that every menu control works identically across devices. Steam’s September 23, 2025 announcement provides the availability update.

Where are Steam’s game discovery tools?

Search for a specific game or filter your options

The expanded search panel includes popular searches, recently viewed games, searches for categories and tags, and publisher searches. It also offers easier access to Advanced Search filters. Choose this route when you have a title, publisher, or type of game in mind and want to narrow the results rather than browse broadly.

Browse by popularity, release date, price, or discount

The Browse section groups ways to explore the Store by popularity, release date, price, and discount. It suits a more open-ended search: for example, you can look for what is popular, focus on newer releases, or set a price or discount as your starting point.

Use recommendations based on your Steam activity and trusted people

The Recommendations section brings together suggestions that can draw on your playtime, purchases, and people you trust. It is a useful place to start when you want suggestions rather than a filter-driven results list.

Explore personalized Categories & Tags hubs

Categories & Tags organizes personalized discovery around aspects of games you play and highlights hubs for top genres and tags. Steam said the personalized categories were intended to make it easier to find games based on those aspects. A hub can expose you to more titles within a genre or tag, but the announcement did not report a measured discovery outcome.

What the redesign does—and does not—establish

The change is primarily a navigation and discovery update: familiar Store destinations are consolidated, and several exploration routes are grouped in the menu. Steam framed it as easier access to places users frequently visit. Its announcements do not provide usage data or evidence that the redesign has increased discovery, purchases, or sales.

The Steam Deck is one of the platforms named in the later availability announcement, not a requirement for using the redesigned menu. Steam also named the client and Steam Mobile as supported destinations; the announcement does not warrant assuming identical layouts or controls on each.
