Stellaris: Cosmic Storms launched on PC on September 10, 2024—not September 10 of this year. The expansion replaces the game’s existing Space Storms with eight dynamic storm types and adds new empire options, precursor stories, and storm-related systems. Paradox’s current product page also lists Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 alongside PC storefronts.

When did Stellaris: Cosmic Storms release?

Paradox Interactive released Cosmic Storms for PC on September 10, 2024. The launch coincided with the free PC 3.13 “Vela” update, but the expansion’s added content is separate from that update. Paradox’s launch announcement confirms the release date and the distinction between the paid expansion and free update.

The expansion’s original announced launch price was €12.99, $12.99, or £10.99. Paradox also said it was included in Stellaris Season 08 and its Expansion subscription offer at launch. Those are historical launch terms, not confirmation of current prices or subscription inclusion; check the relevant store for current regional pricing and availability.

What does the expansion add?

Eight moving storm types

Cosmic Storms replaces the existing Space Storms with eight types: Electric, Particle, Gravity, Magnetic, Radiant, Stardust, Shroud, and Nexus. Storms can appear randomly, travel across the galaxy at different speeds, and grow or shrink over time. The result is a set of changing galactic conditions rather than a single fixed hazard. Paradox outlined these features in its August 15, 2024 announcement.
