Q’s Trials are timed hostile battles in Star Trek Fleet Command that reward Protomatter, milestone items, and Seals of Approval for progression. To access them, reach Operations Level 19, build the Court of Q with Court of Q Keys from the Gifts Section, then spend Trial Bells to start a trial.
How to unlock Q’s Trials
- Reach Operations Level 19. Scopely’s Help Center says the Court of Q becomes available at Operations Level 19 and higher.
- Collect Court of Q Keys from the Gifts Section and use them to build the Court of Q.
- Open Q’s Trials from the Court of Q. The trials require Trial Bells to begin; Scopely says Bells can come from daily gifts, events, or offers.
Scopely’s Q’s Trials help page documents these access requirements. Its displayed update age was 349 days when accessed on October 8, 2026.
How a trial works
Each trial starts a timed fight against a unique hostile. Defeat it before the timer expires to complete the trial. If the timer runs out, the attempt fails; starting another attempt costs additional Trial Bells. While the timer is still active, you can retry, and the hostile’s shield and hull reset between attempts.
After a failure at a higher level, Scopely recommends increasing your ship’s power before trying again. Hostiles are generally Explorers, Battleships, or Interceptors, though Scopely notes that other types can occasionally appear.

Trial Rank, Assessment Rank, and unlocking tiers
Trial Rank and Assessment Rank track different kinds of progress:
- Trial Rank rises as you complete an individual trial. Higher ranks bring stronger opponents and better rewards.
- Assessment Rank is the highest Trial Rank you have reached across all trials. It affects your Forbidden Tech upgrade success rate.
To reach higher trial tiers, earn the relevant Seals of Approval at lower-tier milestones and meet the Court of Q level requirement. Scopely’s example: a three-star Explorer trial requires three-star Explorer seals earned by completing the two-star Explorer, Battleship, and Interceptor trials. Court of Q upgrades also increase bonus Protomatter and unlock additional trials, Forbidden Tech refinery options, and upgrades.
Rank #2
- The Command Division supplement provides Gamemasters and Players with a wealth of new material for use in Star Trek Adventures for characters in the command division.
- Expanded 2d20 Social Conflict rules, enhancing social encounters and galactic diplomacy.
- An expanded list of Talents and Focuses for command and conn characters.
- New rules on running Admiralty-level campaigns that let you command entire fleets, as well as information on commanding starbases.
- The Star Trek Adventures supplementary rulebooks and sourcebooks require the Star Trek Adventures core rulebook in order to play.
Rewards: Protomatter, milestones, and Seals of Approval
- Protomatter is used for Forbidden Tech upgrades. The amount earned depends on your Trial Rank and Court of Q level.
- Milestone rewards may include Forbidden Tech pieces and upgrade materials. Each milestone reward can be collected only once.
- Seals of Approval earned at qualifying milestones unlock higher trial tiers.
Once a trial reaches maximum rank, you can replay it for Protomatter. Replays do not make its one-time milestone rewards available again.

Scopely says trial hostiles usually spawn within two systems of your base, but that is a general description rather than a guaranteed location. Check that the system is accessible to your ship before beginning. A community guide describes spawns using a different measure—within three warp jumps—and warns that a hostile may appear in token space or beyond a ship’s warp range; the difference in wording means neither description establishes a universal radius or exact coordinate.

- The single-player campaign is now called Metaverse, which comes from the term metagame, meaning game within a game.
- Each campaign has about 60 individual missions that feature greater context, flexibility, and impact on the fate of your empire.
- Metaverse is available for online play. There are two new races in addition to the original six: the savage Mirak Star League and the Interstellar Concordium, which aims to enforce peace at any cost.
- New ships are available, including escort vessels, patrol craft, and fighters, bringing the total variants to more than 1,000.
- A new fleet interface makes for easy target monitoring and allows fleets to operate as a single unit or for individual ships to move autonomously.
The community guide also suggests that these hostiles count as level 1 in-game and that basic hostile crews, including Chen and T’Laan, may work for many fights. Treat this as a player strategy suggestion, not a guaranteed rule: individual trials can still be challenging.
