What changed in Stormside v0.21.02?
In its March 1, 2023 patch announcement, creator Atemsiel described v0.21.02 as a patch aimed at problems with the ghost hunt, rather than a major content update. It adds investigation steps, a map, context-aware spirit-box hints, and a library area. Atemsiel said the goal was to make the hunt less frustrating to navigate and more like an investigation. How to approach Sasha’s prison ghost hunt
The hunt is a sandbox exploration sequence: follow clues between locations, then use what you discover to ask the spirit box for information. The map and hint system are there to help you keep track of where you are and what you have already done.
1. Check your position and direction
Open the notebook’s in-game map when you are unsure where to go. The developer says it shows your position and which way you are facing, which makes it useful for orienting yourself in the prison.

2. Follow the poem clue
The detailed walkthrough begins in the office: read the poem and follow its clue to the relevant prison cell. There, look under the bed for a book.
3. Take the book’s title to the library ledger
Use the title you found to check the library ledger. In the later walkthrough, the ledger identifies the borrower as Jack Allen.

4. Ask the spirit box about the borrower
Use Jack Allen’s name with the spirit box. The later walkthrough says the ghost then identifies the boiler room as its location. If you are stuck, try the spirit box hint: in v0.21.02, the hint system takes your completed actions into account.

5. Continue toward the boiler room
The walkthrough continues with directions for finding the boiler-room key. These detailed steps come from a PDF updated through v0.22.04, not a guide limited to v0.21.02. Check the map and spirit-box hint in your own build if a location or interaction does not match.

The sequence above is drawn from Vashaldias’s Stormside walkthrough. Its changelog records a v0.21.02 update that added a map for Sasha’s prison ghost hunt, followed by a later v0.22.04 revision.

The PDF is a broader route and unlockable guide, organized across Days 1–11. It indexes scene replays, phone photos, profile outfits, and other unlockables. Its third-edition changelog entry records an update for v0.21.02, including the ghost-hunt map; the current fifth edition is updated through v0.22.04. Use it for added detail, but verify version-sensitive choices and steps in the build you are playing.

The guide author notes that the game already has an in-game walkthrough for turning points and positions the PDF as extra detail, particularly for unlockables. The PDF also does not list every choice: its author omitted choices judged unlikely to have major long-term effects, while acknowledging those judgments could be wrong because the game was still in development. Treat route advice as a useful guide, not a guarantee of every later consequence.
Should you complete the sandbox hunt or skip it?
The detailed guide describes a visual-novel or skip option that lets you proceed to the end choice without completing the sandbox ghost hunt. Choose the hunt if you want to explore and uncover its clues; skip it if you only want to advance. The trade-off is context: Atemsiel says the gallery unlocker opens current scenes but sacrifices some of their context.
Choices also influence which scenes appear, and the developer says some choices may affect scenes in later updates. The v0.21 release focused most heavily on Sasha and Riley, though every character appeared in some form. Its gallery unlocker opens the scenes available at that time, but it is not a substitute for seeing how choices lead to them. Read the v0.21 release announcement.
Play with the sound on
Atemsiel described the v0.21 update as sound-heavy in many places and advised against playing muted. The same announcement reported 2,100+ new renders and 200+ new animations; these are developer-reported counts, not independently verified measurements.
