Neal Agarwal created the game. In a January 27, 2025 feature for The Atlantic, he said the idea came during pandemic lockdown, when life had moved online. He described wanting to capture “that experience of just endless bombardment, which I feel like is kind of the defining feature of the internet at the moment.”

Agarwal has also said, “I’m very much a believer that the web is a creative medium.” The game puts that idea into practice by using a browser page itself as its playground: the interface and its accumulating distractions are central to the experience.

Why is Stimulation Clicker so overwhelming?
The overload is the design point. At first, the page asks for one kind of attention: click and watch the score rise. The added web-like activities create competing demands, echoing the experience of moving between feeds, notifications, media and other online diversions.

Agarwal’s explanation makes the intent explicit: the crowded page is meant to evoke endless bombardment and the competing social-media feeds he associates with the contemporary internet. Calling the experience “brainrot” is colloquial shorthand for that internet overload, not a medical diagnosis or a claim about the game’s health effects.

Is Stimulation Clicker a physical game or app?
The sources establish it as a browser game on Neal.fun, not a physical product requiring equipment. A separate app-store result with the same name has a different developer, so it should not be confused with Agarwal’s Neal.fun game.
