Street Fighter 6’s Alex story drew criticism because its initial World Tour dialogue reportedly made Patricia—Alex’s partner and the daughter of the man who raised him—both a blood relative and an adoptive-sister figure. Capcom later apologized for confusion, and reporting says some language versions received vaguer wording. The exact current text has not been confirmed across languages.
Where Alex’s story appears in Street Fighter 6
Capcom announced that Alex joined Street Fighter 6 on March 17, 2026, in World Tour, Battle Hub, and Fighting Ground. In World Tour, Alex is a master who teaches moves and has missions and gift interactions; Fighting Ground’s Arcade Mode also includes an Alex story. The announcement establishes where the story content appears, but does not explain the family-relationship controversy.

Why players called Patricia Alex’s “cousin-sister”
In the initial story wording described by reporting, Alex says Tom is a cousin of Alex’s mother. Tom raised Alex and is Patricia’s father. That connection made Patricia a blood relative under the reported family link, while her upbringing alongside Alex also made her an adoptive-sister figure. The story presents Alex and Patricia as a married couple, creating the relationship contradiction behind the phrase “cousin-sister.”
The controversy is about how those relationships were explained, not a separate gameplay feature. The key distinction is between the initial wording reported by outlets and the text players may encounter now.

Capcom’s response and the reported wording change
Shacknews reported that Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama apologized for confusion around Alex’s story and said revisions were coming: Shacknews’ report on the response. PC Gamer also reported an apology, rendering it as: “We apologize for any confusion that recent topics regarding Alex’s story may have caused.” That is a secondary-source translation, not a verified original post.
On April 16, 2026, GamesRadar+ reported that some World Tour text in certain languages had been changed: the direct description of Tom as Alex’s mother’s cousin was replaced by vaguer wording referring to a distant relative. The available reporting does not establish which language versions changed or confirm the exact current in-game wording in every language. Treat “cousin” as the reported initial wording, not a guaranteed description of the text players see today.

What the official announcement does—and doesn’t—confirm
Capcom’s March 17 announcement confirms Alex’s Street Fighter 6 modes and story content, and says his Outfit 2 could be earned by meeting conditions in World Tour. It also lists access through an individual Fighter Coins purchase or the Year 3 Character Pass or Ultimate Pass. Those details identify the content and ways to access Alex; the announcement does not address the family-tree issue or confirm the later text adjustment.
For the original relationship explanation, the available accounts are secondary reporting, including PC Gamer’s report on the initial confusion. The later reported localization change is covered by GamesRadar+. Neither report substitutes for a verified, current transcript of every language version.
