Visitors could scan QR codes at five city destinations to unlock hoverboards as in-game rewards. The promotion has ended; it was not a real-world hoverboard race or a current offer.
What was the Subway Surfers Hoverboard Hunt?
SYBO, the Copenhagen-based studio behind Subway Surfers, framed the activation as its first real-life challenge. It invited players to visit places connected to the city’s cultural influences and scan QR codes at the stops to collect rewards in the game. The hunt also appeared in the game’s World Tour Copenhagen map during the promotion, so players outside Denmark could see the same five destinations in-game.
Despite the name, participants were not racing or riding physical hoverboards. The hoverboards were digital game rewards tied to the QR-code activity.
Where did the hunt take place?
The five reported destinations were:
- Copenhagen Airport
- The Royal Danish Library, also known as The Black Diamond
- BLOX
- Creative Denmark
- Tivoli Gardens
The stops brought together different sides of Copenhagen, from an airport and library to cultural and design destinations and an amusement attraction. The event coverage describes them as hunt locations, not as a ranked itinerary. How did the QR-code hunt work?
Players visited the named destinations and scanned a QR code at each stop to collect in-game hoverboards. The activation connected a physical visit to an in-game reward; it did not promise that purchasing or riding a physical hoverboard would unlock anything.
Can you still take part?
No. The advertised event ran from May 15 through June 5, 2023. Its QR-code rewards were part of that limited-time promotion, not an ongoing feature or current offer.

Was this connected to physical Subway Surfers hoverboards?
No. SYBO-hosted material announced SubSurf-branded wheeled merchandise in 2020, including skateboards, hoverboards and two-wheeled scooters. That earlier merchandise announcement is separate from the 2023 Copenhagen hunt, and it does not establish current stock or availability. It also does not link buying a physical board to the hunt’s in-game rewards. The announcement is available in SYBO’s 2020 press release.

The anniversary activation highlighted the game’s Danish roots by taking its theme beyond mobile screens and into the city where Subway Surfers was created. SYBO CEO Mathias Gredal Nørvig said the studio wanted to let players engage with the game outside their devices and work with Copenhagen landmarks to bring its universe into the real world.

Tivoli CCO Niels Folmann welcomed the attraction’s inclusion, saying it could encourage Danish and international guests to visit the park and experience it both in person and in the game. The available event coverage names the five stops and dates but does not report a specific attendance or participation figure for the hunt.
