If Suck Up! crashes on your Windows PC, start with reversible checks: identify when it fails, install the current Steam build, compare your PC with the game’s requirements, then work through Windows, graphics-driver, and Steam file checks. These are general Steam troubleshooting steps—not guaranteed fixes for every Suck Up! crash. If the game stays open but AI interactions or network features fail, that may be a service or connectivity issue rather than a local crash.

First, identify what is actually failing

Note whether Suck Up! exits before the menu, crashes while loading, freezes or closes during play, or remains open while AI responses or other network features fail. Write down the exact error message and what you were doing when it appeared. That pattern helps distinguish a local application failure from a possible connection or service problem; the available official information does not establish one universal cause for crashes.

Try these 8 troubleshooting steps

1. Record the crash pattern and error

Before changing settings, note the failure point, any error text, and whether the game closes, freezes, or simply stops responding online. This gives you a baseline and useful details if you need to report a repeatable problem.

2. Check for a game update and current notice

In Steam, open Library, select Suck Up!, and check whether an update is available. Also review the game’s official Steam announcements for current patch or service information. Proxima has published historical hotfixes addressing startup/login and Unity-related bugs, but those past fixes do not establish the cause of a new crash.

3. Compare your PC with the Steam listing

The current Steam store listing gives these minimum requirements: Windows 10/11 64-bit, Intel Core i3 7th generation, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 650, DirectX 11, broadband internet, and 5 GB of available storage. Its recommended list is Intel Core i5 6th generation or AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, 8 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti, DirectX 11, broadband internet, and 5 GB storage.

Proxima’s developer FAQ lists some different graphics alternatives, storage amounts, and recommended CPU details. The official lists therefore do not match perfectly; use Steam’s live listing as the primary comparison and check it for current requirements. Compare your Windows edition and architecture, processor, memory, graphics card, DirectX support, connection, and free storage. Steam also notes generally that systems at or near a game’s requirements can encounter launch or performance problems.

4. Install pending Windows updates

Check Windows Update and install pending updates, then restart the PC before launching the game again. Updating Windows is part of Steam’s general launch troubleshooting guidance, not a confirmed game-specific cure.

5. Update your graphics driver

Get the driver from your graphics-card maker or PC manufacturer, install it, and restart. Avoid third-party driver download sites. Steam recommends checking for current drivers as a general troubleshooting step.

6. Verify the game files in Steam

  1. Open Steam and select Library.
  2. Right-click Suck Up! and choose Properties.
  3. Open Installed Files and select Verify integrity of game files.

Steam will check the installation and replace or reacquire files it identifies as damaged or missing. This can help with an installation-file problem, but it does not diagnose or repair every kind of crash.

7. Temporarily close nonessential background software

Close nonessential apps and overlays for a short diagnostic test, then try the game again. Steam recommends disabling nonessential software when troubleshooting launch problems. Keep the test limited to software you can safely close, and restore your normal settings afterward. If the crash continues, the result is useful context rather than proof that a particular app caused it.

Include when the crash occurs, the exact message, your Windows version, CPU, graphics card, and RAM, plus the steps you already tried. The development team’s October 6, 2025 Steam announcement invited players to report bugs through its community channel: “If you encounter any bugs, please join it and feel free to report anything that you find.” See the official announcements for the current route.

When it may be a service or connection problem instead

Suck Up! uses real-time AI character interactions, and its Steam listing identifies a third-party AI-content service connection. If the application remains open but AI responses or network-dependent features fail, check the game’s official announcements and your connection before treating the symptom as a PC crash.

Proxima’s March 26 server notice described a past outage caused by an AI integration/provider problem and said service had been restored. The team wrote, “The issue was due to a AI integration that broke with our provider that we didn’t catch in time.” That notice documents a historical incident; it does not establish that the service is down now or explain a local application crash.
