Its performances, traversal and occasional story set pieces give it a lively identity; its repetitive shooting and missions too often get in the way. It is worth considering for players who want an offbeat DC story and co-op chaos, but less so for anyone expecting the close-quarters combat and encounter variety of Rocksteady’s Arkham games.
What kind of game is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?
Rocksteady describes Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as a third-person action shooter. Set in Metropolis five years after Batman: Arkham Knight, it follows four captured villains sent to stop the Justice League after Brainiac’s invasion. The premise gives the game room for irreverent character comedy and extravagant DC spectacle, but the core action is built around shooting rather than Arkham-style melee combat. Rocksteady’s game FAQ covers the game’s features and modes; Warner Bros. Games’ listing describes its setting and platform availability.
Where the game works: characters, story and movement
The cast gives the story its spark
The strongest moments come from the way the squad plays off one another and from the game’s willingness to let its villains be ridiculous, abrasive and occasionally vulnerable. The Guardian’s Tom Regan praised the performances, comic character moments and villain vignettes in his February 7, 2024 review, while finding the action much less inspired. That split is central to the experience: the writing can make a scene entertaining even when the next stretch of combat feels routine.
The story’s premise also gives Rocksteady permission to stage outsized confrontations with familiar heroes. Those encounters can be memorable as spectacle and character drama, rather than as a sustained series of surprising fights. Rocksteady Studio Director Darius Sadeghian described the launch as an effort to take players on “an adventure unlike anything we have ever played or made before at Rocksteady” in the studio’s January 30, 2024 announcement. That captures the ambition, not a guarantee that the result succeeds for every player.

Traversal adds personality to the squad
Moving through Metropolis is often more appealing than standing still and clearing another group of enemies. Each squad member has a distinct way to get around, and that movement gives the city and the characters a sense of momentum. It is one of the game’s clearest differences from a conventional cover shooter, and a reason the action can feel lively even when its objectives repeat.
Why the combat and missions can wear thin
Shooting dominates the loop
The game asks players to shoot large numbers of enemies, and the repeated encounters can make combat feel more like a checklist than a sequence of tactical problems. Regan’s Guardian review criticizes generic gunplay, bullet-sponge enemies and repetitive encounters, even as it praises the story and acting. The issue is not simply that the game has a shooter foundation; it is that the shooting does not consistently develop into enough varied situations to match the energy of the cast and traversal.

Visual effects compete with readability
During a busy fight, effects, damage indicators and interface elements can crowd the screen. GameSpot’s launch-period review specifically objected to the amount of visual noise and its interference with combat. That is a reviewer’s assessment of the experience, not a claim that every player will find the display equally hard to read, but it points to a real tension: spectacle is part of the game’s appeal, and too much of it can make it harder to follow the action.
Mission repetition limits the highs
Strong character beats and dramatic set pieces are separated by stretches of familiar objectives. When missions reuse the same basic rhythms, the story’s unusual premise has less room to keep surprising the player. The result is a game that can be fun in bursts—especially when the squad is bantering or flying through the city—but struggles to sustain that fun across its routine combat.

Is it worth playing?
It depends on which part of the game you want most. Players drawn to character banter, traversal and an unconventional DC story have more to enjoy here than players looking for varied mission design or the punchy melee flow associated with Rocksteady’s Arkham games. Online co-op can make the chaos more sociable, but it does not change the underlying emphasis on repeated shooting.
GameSpot also reported crashes and login or server problems during the reviewer’s launch-week experience. Those are historical launch-period observations, not evidence of current server conditions. The game now has an offline mode for its campaign and seasonal story content, with important feature limits described below.

Can you play solo, in co-op or offline?
Solo and online co-op
The full game can be played solo or in online co-op with up to four players. Online co-op supports cross-platform play and cross-progression; local co-op is not supported. Solo play on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S does not require PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core, while online co-op requires the relevant platform subscription. These details are in the official game FAQ.
Offline mode and its limits
Rocksteady’s Offline Mode FAQ says released content, including the main campaign and seasonal story missions, can be played offline. Multiplayer and social features, the in-game store and battle passes are unavailable in that mode. Cosmetics earned or purchased on a profile copied from online mode carry over when using that profile offline.

Quick Recap
Who is most likely to enjoy it?
- Consider it if: you want a talkative, irreverent DC story, enjoy character-driven performances, or find traversal and online squad play appealing.
- Think twice if: you primarily want Arkham-style melee combat, sharply varied enemy encounters, or missions that constantly introduce new objectives.
- For offline play: campaign and released seasonal story content are available after the required update, but the social and service features are not.
