There is no single best The Sims 4 Expansion Pack for every player. If you want the broadest changes to everyday saves, Seasons is the strongest general-purpose starting point in the reviewed guides. For a more specific play style, choose a pack built around the loop you will return to: rural routines, pets, family stories, city living, careers, or the supernatural.

For a little of everything: Seasons
Seasons changes the backdrop of regular play rather than asking you to commit to one specialized career or story. Weather and holidays recur across saves, and its calendar can accommodate events added by later packs. GamesRadar ranked it first in its 2026 guide; TechRadar also recommends it as a starting point if you are unsure what to buy. That makes it a defensible default, not a universal winner.
For a slower country-life loop: Cottage Living
Choose Cottage Living if you like daily routines built around land and animals. You can grow crops, care for animals, run errands, and take part in fairs in Henford-on-Bagley. Its Simple Living lot challenge makes recipes depend on ingredients your Sim has gathered or bought, tying cooking to the rural routine.

#1 Best Overall
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Create Vampires
- Unleash Supernatural Powers
- Escape to Forgotten Hollow
- Live the Immortal Life
For pets and veterinary play: Cats & Dogs
Cats & Dogs is the direct choice if you want cats and dogs to be part of the household. It offers pet customization and relationships, as well as the option to become a vet and run a clinic.
For family relationships: Growing Together
Growing Together focuses on how family members relate to one another, including bonds, quirks, and changing dynamics. Its family-oriented activities include baby showers and reunions, while mid-life crises can add complications to adult Sims’ stories. The infant life stage itself arrived in a free base-game update; it is not exclusive to this pack.
Rank #2
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Rule your story: Build a powerful Dynasty, shape shared Values, choose an Heir, or exile family members in a deep life simulation driven by legacy, prestige, and choice.
- Claim the crown: Rise through Nobility by winning the people, pleasing rival Nobles, dueling with swords, or exposing Scandals that can change the balance of power.
- Scandal fuels drama: Forbidden romances, secret children, and public disgrace can impact careers, relationships, Dynasty Prestige, and Noble Favor.
For fairies and nature-focused play: Enchanted by Nature
Enchanted by Nature adds a fairy path with abilities, an aspiration, and customization options, alongside an apothecary table and Natural Living. TechRadar praises its occult and world design but raises concerns about feature balance and the amount of Create-a-Sim and build content. It is a better fit if the fairy and nature gameplay appeals to you than if you are mainly buying for a large collection of customization or build items.
For gothic storytelling: Life & Death
Life & Death brings together funerals, wills, ghost households, crypts, and crows with career options including Grim Reaper and mortician play. Pick it for stories about death, mourning, and the supernatural rather than as a general-purpose upgrade.

For playable jobs and businesses: Get to Work
Get to Work is aimed at players who want to follow Sims into active Doctor, Detective, and Scientist careers or run retail businesses. TechRadar cautions that it may be less compelling if your main interest is home-decor items.

For royal family sagas: Royalty & Legacy
PC Gamer reported that Royalty & Legacy launched on February 12, 2026, with the Ondarion world, a Noble career, dynasties, scandals, and swordsmanship among its announced features. It is a current option for players who want family power struggles and a dynasty-focused story.
For trips and varied activities: Adventure Awaits
Adventure Awaits is built around getaways and activities, with three neighborhoods, formative childhood moments, and imaginary friends. Its activity list includes papercraft, entomology, diving, and archery, making it a fit for players who want a change of pace from a household’s normal routine.

What is in the current Expansion Pack catalog?
Electronic Arts’ Expansion Packs category listed 21 results in 2026. The store describes these as large packs that build on The Sims 4. Its list includes Royalty & Legacy, Adventure Awaits, Enchanted by Nature, Businesses & Hobbies, Life & Death, Lovestruck, For Rent, Horse Ranch, Growing Together, High School Years, Cottage Living, Snowy Escape, Eco Lifestyle, Discover University, Island Living, Get Famous, Seasons, Cats & Dogs, City Living, Get Together, and Get to Work. The 21-result count is a catalog count, not a measure of quality.
GamesRadar’s guide, labeled for 2026, offers ten recommendations, but its release-order section names 20 packs and omits Royalty & Legacy. Treat its rankings as that guide’s editorial selections, not as a complete current catalog.
How to choose the right pack for your game
Before buying, focus on the parts of play you will actually revisit. A striking theme is less useful if its main activity does not fit how you play.
- Pick the recurring gameplay loop. Decide whether you want seasonal changes, animal care, family relationships, careers, city activities, or supernatural storytelling.
- Consider the world and theme. Think about whether you want a new setting to shape your saves, or mechanics that can become part of many different households.
- Check where the content is concentrated. Some packs center on live-mode mechanics or careers; others focus more on family play, world-building, Create-a-Sim, or build content.
- Account for packs you already own. If you already have a pack that covers an activity you want—such as apartment renting—consider whether the new pack’s other features justify the overlap.
- Confirm platform availability and local price. Prices and discounts vary by region and date. Check EA’s local listing when you are ready to buy rather than relying on an old sale price.
What you need to know before buying
EA says the base game and updates are required. An internet connection and EA account may also be required. EA Help documents installation through the EA app for downloads or codes, as well as a disc-install workflow; that does not establish that current recommended packs have useful physical editions. A forum discussion about a Cottage Living Amazon DVD-ROM listing reports that the buyer received a box, while an EA reply said there was no physical copy, so do not assume a boxed listing contains a disc.
