Sunset Hills is a municipality in St. Louis County, Missouri, known locally for a city-run recreation system that includes parks, trails, athletic facilities, an aquatic facility and a golf center. It incorporated in June 1957. Where is Sunset Hills, Missouri?
Sunset Hills is in St. Louis County. The city’s 2025 Parks Master Plan says it borders Kirkwood, Crestwood and Fenton. The same plan describes the city as covering just over 9.14 square miles, while the U.S. Census Bureau reports 8.98 square miles of land area for 2020. These figures come from different sources and dates, so they should not be treated as identical measurements.

The city says it incorporated in June 1957. Its history page traces the development of municipal parks and recreation facilities over the decades that followed.
Population and housing context
The U.S. Census Bureau counted 9,198 people in Sunset Hills in the 2020 Census. Its July 1, 2025 population estimate is 9,075; the earlier 2010 Census count was 8,496. These are dated Census measures, not a real-time count of residents.

For 2020–2024, Census Bureau QuickFacts reports that 82.9% of housing units were owner-occupied and the median value of owner-occupied homes was $523,800. That value describes the survey period, not current 2026 market prices. The same source reports a mean travel time to work of 21.3 minutes for workers age 16 and older during 2020–2024.

How the city’s recreation system developed
Watson Trail Park
The city history says Sunset Hills purchased a 23-acre tract for Watson Trail Park in 1975. Construction took place from 1976 to 1979, and the park was dedicated in May 1979.

Mini Ha Ha Park
The city acquired and improved land along the Meramec River for Mini Ha Ha Park. According to the history page, the park opened to the public in 2005.

The city records the completion of an aquatic facility and community center in 2010. Its historical account describes the aquatic facility as having a competition pool, diving area, wading pool and lazy river. It describes the community center as including meeting space, a workout facility and a gym. Those descriptions document the facilities at the time; consult the city’s current listings to confirm what is operating and available now.
What parks and recreation facilities does the city list?
Sunset Hills says its park system includes more than 311 acres of park land. Its parks, facilities and trails directory lists these city assets:
