To find a missing Power Moon in Super Mario Odyssey, start with the kingdom where it appears, then match its in-game name and numbered map entry to the guide. A marker alone may not be enough: some moons need a specific move, capture, story milestone, Moon Rock break, or task completed in another kingdom.
How to use a Power Moon location guide
Nintendo explains the reason to collect them plainly: “The Odyssey requires a steady supply of Power Moons to travel.” The official Super Mario Odyssey overview notes that some are harder to find than others, but it does not provide a full location list.

- Choose the kingdom. Find the kingdom where the missing moon is listed. Nintendo Life’s Power Moon Locations And Walkthrough index groups its location guides by kingdom.
- Match the name and number. Use the moon’s in-game name and map number together. The number identifies the guide entry; the directions explain how to reach or trigger it.
- Check the condition before searching. Read for movement, Cappy throws, captures, story progress, or an unlock such as breaking a Moon Rock. Some objectives also depend on an action in a different kingdom.
Exact directions and map references belong to the individual kingdom guides. Use the relevant map when an entry points to a location marker; the text may describe the required action rather than a complete route from the checkpoint.

When moons become available
Story progress and specific actions
A moon shown in a location guide may not be collectible on the first visit. The Moon Kingdom guide, dated September 12, 2022, explains that availability can depend on story completion or a specific action. For example, “Shining Above the Moon” involves jumps that reveal hidden blocks, while “The Tip of a White Spire” requires throwing Cappy at a glowing spire. Follow the entry’s stated action; merely reaching the map location may not complete it.
Moon Rock moons
In the Moon Kingdom guide, entries 28–38 become available after breaking that kingdom’s Moon Rock. Treat these as a return trip: if the numbered moon is not present before the rock is broken, progress the story and revisit after unlocking the Moon Rock content.
Cross-kingdom requirements
Some entries depend on an earlier interaction elsewhere. The Moon Kingdom’s “A Tourist in the Moon Kingdom!” requires speaking with the traveling Tostarenan in the Sand Kingdom first. If the Moon Kingdom entry does not resolve, return to Sand Kingdom and complete that conversation before trying again.
Post-game and bonus-area coverage
Mushroom Kingdom
Nintendo Life’s Mushroom Kingdom walkthrough, dated September 12, 2022, reports maps and directions for 104 Power Moons. It notes that some depend on a particular action or story progress. The guide’s entries 44–104 identify Toadette in Peach’s Castle as the giver of those listed achievement moons.
Dark Side and Darker Side
The Dark Side/Darker Side walkthrough reports 24 Power Moons on Dark Side and one available from Darker Side. It also flags action or progress conditions. These are counts reported by the guide publisher, not an official Nintendo total; consult its separate entries for the conditions attached to each moon.
What the counts mean
The figures above describe the scope of particular Nintendo Life walkthroughs: 38 Moon Kingdom moons, 104 Mushroom Kingdom moons, and 24 Dark Side moons plus one from Darker Side. They are not a game-wide total published by Nintendo. For location lookup, the practical unit is the individual kingdom page’s map number and named entry.
Helpful in-game options
Nintendo’s official overview says Crazy Cap sells items including outfits, stickers, souvenirs, Power Moons, and Life-Up Hearts. It also describes Assist Mode as providing more health and helpful arrows. These options can support play, but a guide entry’s requirements still determine how to collect a particular moon.
