The original Nintendo Switch game supports up to four players on one system, while online play can support up to 20. Which version and setup you need depends on how your group wants to play.
Why Jamboree can fill a party night
The scale is the clearest reason to call Jamboree a rager. Nintendo lists seven boards and over 110 minigames on its Nintendo UK product page. That gives a group more than one kind of activity to cycle through: board-game turns, quick minigame bouts, and modes built around larger groups. The count is Nintendo’s description of the game, not a measure of how long a particular group will stay entertained.

The original game launched for Nintendo Switch on October 17, 2024, and supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes, according to Nintendo of America’s listing. Its headline group sizes are distinct: one to four players on a single system, or one to 20 online. The online figure does not mean 20 people can crowd around one console.
How many players can play Jamboree?
| How you play | Supported group size | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| One Nintendo Switch system | 1–4 players | Nintendo’s US listing gives this range for the original Switch game. |
| Online, original Switch game | 1–20 players | Nintendo lists this online range; online features require a Nintendo Account, internet access, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership. |
For a living-room session, plan around the four-player local limit and the controllers your guests will use. For online play, Nintendo’s requirements are more than a console and connection: players need the required account and membership as well. Check the Nintendo product listing for the game’s current regional details.

- Get ready for the biggest party yet in Super Mario Party Jamboree for Nintendo Switch. From running through merry-go-rounds to motion-control minigolf, this jamboree is jam-packed with over 110 minigames – the most of any Mario Party game to date!
- With seven boards in all, you can go with the flow in Goomba Lagoon, search for stars in Rainbow Galleria, revisit the classics of Western Land and Mario’s Rainbow Castle from past titles and more.
- Race across the party board in Koopathlon, a series-first 20-player online competition to see who can rack up the highest scores in minigames like the fast-paced Lane Change. The higher your score in each round, the faster you’ll get to the goal. Koopathlon is just one of a slew of additional modes – there’s something for every kind of Mario Party player to enjoy!
Can you play Super Mario Party Jamboree online with friends?
Yes. The original Switch listing supports online play for one to 20 players, subject to Nintendo’s online requirements. There is an important edition distinction for Switch 2: Nintendo Support describes a base online route for playing with owners of the Nintendo Switch game, and a separate Jamboree TV route for new minigames and rules that requires the other players to own the same Switch 2 Edition. Those are different modes, not a blanket promise that every feature works across editions. See Nintendo Support’s Switch 2 Edition multiplayer instructions before organizing a cross-version session.
Which version should your group choose?
The original 2024 game and Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV are not identical in features. The Switch 2 Edition adds Jamboree TV, with additional rules and play involving the system’s camera, microphone, and mouse-related features. If your group only needs the original board-game and minigame offering, compare the base Switch edition; if the new Jamboree TV modes are the draw, make sure everyone joining those exclusive online features has the same edition.

- This jam-packed jamboree just got even bigger—only on the Nintendo Switch 2 system!
- With 22 playable characters, Pro Rules for more serious competition, and a local single player mode, there’s something for every kind of partygoer!
- Get hands-on with Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive features in Carnival Coaster and Bowser Live
- Take the fun online in Koopathlon and Bowser Kaboom Squad
- Get moving in Rhythm Kitchen, Toad’s Item Factory, and Paratroopa Flight School
Nintendo’s Jamboree TV feature page says CameraPlay is optional and requires a compatible USB camera, sold separately; the full game is also required. A camera is therefore not a general requirement for playing Jamboree. Consider it only if you want to use the Switch 2 Edition’s camera features.
Controls, Switch Lite, and motion minigames
Not every minigame uses the same control style. Nintendo says some use motion controls and require Joy-Con. Its product pages also state that motion-control minigames do not work with Bowser Kaboom Squad, Koopathlon, or Nintendo Switch Lite; in certain modes, players can toggle motion minigames. Check the specific mode and control option before a session if anyone is using a Switch Lite or if your group wants to avoid motion controls. Details appear on Nintendo’s US product page and its UK page.

Jamboree makes the most sense when your group wants a flexible party game with both board play and a large minigame selection, and can settle on a shared edition and control setup. Local groups can play on one system with up to four players; online groups have a larger listed ceiling, but need Nintendo’s accounts, membership, and connectivity requirements. Switch 2 owners should choose the edition based on whether Jamboree TV’s extra modes matter to the group, rather than assuming those features are part of the 2024 Switch release.

One independent perspective comes from TechRadar’s review of the Switch 2 Edition: the reviewer reports about eight hours of play, including local multiplayer, and says they could not test online or GameShare before release. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a consensus or a substitute for checking the online mode requirements above. Read the TechRadar review for its full assessment.
