Why Jamboree works so well as a party game
The core Mario Party loop remains simple to understand and hard to predict. Players roll dice, move around a board, and compete for Stars. Landing spaces trigger different events, while minigame wins can earn coins used for in-game purchases such as Stars. Luck can swing a match, but short minigames give everyone repeated chances to affect the outcome.

Nintendo lists more than 110 minigames in the original game. The mix spans different styles of competition and control, so groups can move between quick skill challenges rather than repeating one kind of contest.
Which version should you choose?
The original game is for Nintendo Switch. The Switch 2 Edition includes the full original game and adds Jamboree TV, 20 new minigames, and features that use Switch 2 hardware. Nintendo describes the edition’s minigame lineup as including 78 minigames from the original game alongside the 20 new ones.

Switch 2 additions use Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, HD rumble 2, the built-in microphone, and a compatible USB-C camera in supported modes. Camera hardware is sold separately, and camera features are not universal across the edition. Check the requirements for the particular mode before planning a group around a camera-dependent feature.
Can you play Jamboree online, and how many players can join?

Nintendo marks Bowser Live, Carnival Coaster, and Free Play as available only in Jamboree TV. Some modes must first be cleared in single-player before online play becomes available. The large online groups are specific to Koopathlon and Bowser Kaboom Squad; they do not mean that every mode supports a crowd of that size.
Internet features require a game update, and online play requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo Support lists version 2.3.0, released February 3, 2026, as the latest update in its update history; version details can change, so check the game’s current support page if you need to confirm the latest release.

What hardware limits should you know about?
- Motion controls: Nintendo says motion-control minigames are not compatible with online mode or Nintendo Switch Lite. If a group depends on those minigames, check which controllers and play setup are supported before starting.
- CameraPlay: Camera features work only in supported Switch 2 Edition modes and require a compatible USB-C camera, sold separately.
- Online setup: A Nintendo Switch Online membership and an update are required for online play; mode-specific player limits still apply.
- Unlocking online modes: Some modes require a single-player clear before their online option is available.
Is Super Mario Party Jamboree worth it?
For a group that wants a straightforward party game with familiar board play and a lot of minigame variety, the original Super Mario Party Jamboree is an easy recommendation. Its seven boards provide meaningful differences in how a match unfolds, while the large minigame selection keeps the contest moving between turns.
The Switch 2 Edition makes sense when you own or plan to use Switch 2 and specifically want Jamboree TV or its new hardware-based features. Choose based on the modes your group will actually play and the hardware available, rather than assuming every addition works in every mode or online setup.
