Yes: the original Super Mario Party Jamboree is a substantial Nintendo Switch party game, with seven boards, more than 110 minigames, 22 playable characters and modes beyond the main board game. Its breadth gives it a strong case for a place in a Switch library, though the available content depends on your controllers and whether you play locally or online.
What makes Jamboree feel bigger than a board-game sequel?
Nintendo’s launch announcement lists 22 playable characters and over 110 minigames. Those are Nintendo’s published counts, not an independent tally. The game also offers several ways to play, including the familiar Mario Party board mode, a solo adventure, and online and offline options. The scale is in that combination: a large pool of minigames alongside different modes and boards, rather than a single loop with a new coat of paint.

Nintendo describes the series as “more jam-packed than ever” in its product copy. That is publisher language; the concrete evidence for the claim is the game’s listed content and modes.

- Get ready for the biggest party yet in Super Mario Party Jamboree for Nintendo Switch. From running through merry-go-rounds to motion-control minigolf, this jamboree is jam-packed with over 110 minigames – the most of any Mario Party game to date!
- With seven boards in all, you can go with the flow in Goomba Lagoon, search for stars in Rainbow Galleria, revisit the classics of Western Land and Mario’s Rainbow Castle from past titles and more.
- Race across the party board in Koopathlon, a series-first 20-player online competition to see who can rack up the highest scores in minigames like the fast-paced Lane Change. The higher your score in each round, the faster you’ll get to the goal. Koopathlon is just one of a slew of additional modes – there’s something for every kind of Mario Party player to enjoy!
| Board | Status | Detail highlighted by Nintendo |
|---|---|---|
| Mega Wiggler’s Tree Party | New | Not stated in the cited overview |
| Roll ’em Raceway | New | Not stated in the cited overview |
| Goomba Lagoon | New | The tide changes, affecting board tactics |
| King Bowser’s Keep | New | Not stated in the cited overview |
| Rainbow Galleria | New | Not stated in the cited overview |
| Western Land | Returning | A train is one of the board’s notable features |
| Mario’s Rainbow Castle | Returning | Not stated in the cited overview |
Board-specific features matter because they can change how a match unfolds: Nintendo calls out the train in Western Land and the shifting tide in Goomba Lagoon as examples of mechanics players need to account for. In the main Mario Party mode, players move by dice, land on spaces, collect coins and compete for Stars. Nintendo also offers Party Rules and Pro Rules; Pro Rules are intended to reduce the emphasis on luck.
What can you play alone or with a group?
Party-Planner Trek for solo play
Party-Planner Trek is a single-player mode. Players roam across five boards, complete tasks, play minigames and collect Mini Stars. It gives solo players a structured activity beyond taking turns through the standard board game.

Online multiplayer
Nintendo lists online play for one to 20 players. Online features require a Nintendo Account, an internet connection and a separately sold Nintendo Switch Online membership. The 20-player online listing is distinct from the one-to-four-player single-system listing.

Which edition should you get?
The original Nintendo Switch game released in the United States on October 17, 2024. Nintendo’s later Switch 2 Edition adds content and features that should not be confused with what is included in the original Switch release.
| Option | What it includes | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Original Nintendo Switch game | The original game, including its boards and modes | This is the version covered by the seven-board, over-110-minigame and 22-character figures. |
| Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV | Jamboree TV and Switch 2-specific features; Nintendo lists 20 new minigames and 78 minigames from the original game | Mouse controls, HD rumble 2, the Switch 2 microphone and some camera features belong to this edition, not the original Switch release. |
| Upgrade pack | Added Switch 2 Edition content for owners of the original game | Nintendo says original-game owners moving to Switch 2 can purchase the upgrade pack rather than rebuy the game. No price is stated here. |
Nintendo announced the Switch 2 upgrade on May 29, 2025. Its feature set includes use of Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, HD rumble 2, the Switch 2 microphone and an optional compatible USB-C camera for certain Jamboree TV features. Those are edition-specific additions, not reasons to expect the original Switch game to use Switch 2 hardware.

What controllers and console do you need?
Not every minigame uses the same input. Some use buttons; others use motion controls. Nintendo says motion-control minigames require Joy-Con controllers and are incompatible with Switch Lite. Some modes also exclude motion-control minigames, and Nintendo says motion minigames can be toggled off in certain modes.
- If you plan to play motion-control minigames, make sure you have Joy-Con controllers available.
- If you use Switch Lite, motion-control minigames are not compatible.
- If you prefer button controls, check the chosen mode’s options: some modes exclude motion minigames, and some allow them to be turned off.
Whether you need extra controllers depends on your console, what controllers you already own and which modes you plan to play; Joy-Con are not a blanket requirement for every activity.
Who is the original Switch game for?
The original release is a good fit for players who want a party game with several board options, a large minigame pool, a solo mode and local play for up to four on one system. Online group play is also listed, but it has separate account, internet and membership requirements. The game’s breadth is clear from Nintendo’s published features; those counts alone do not establish that every mode will suit every player.
When choosing between releases, focus on the system you own and the features you want: the original game supplies the Switch content, while Jamboree TV and its hardware-specific activities are part of the Switch 2 Edition or its upgrade path.
