Super Technos World: River City & Technos Arcade Classics has a mixed, small-sample critic record: Metacritic lists four PS5 reviews and a 63 Metascore, with all four classified as mixed. The reviews see appeal in the collection’s variety and convenience, but raise concerns about the game selection and localization. That evidence is specific to PS5 and four reviews, not a verdict across every platform.
What critics say about the collection
The visible review picture is divided between appreciation for the package’s range and reservations about whether its 12 games are consistently worthwhile. Metacritic’s PS5 critic page lists four reviews, a 63 Metascore, and four mixed classifications. The aggregate is a small sample and may change.
Video Chums’ June 15, 2025 review, scored 70, praises the overall variety while calling some included games clunkers and questioning the collection’s size. Final Weapon’s July 29, 2025 review, also scored 70, praises emulation and settings but criticizes the game selection and inconsistent translations. These are publication-attributed excerpts; they do not establish what every reviewer or player thinks.

What features and platforms does it offer?
Arc System Works lists Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The publisher describes online versus and co-op play, plus “Suspend Save,” which saves the current game state mid-play. Player counts vary by title: Nintendo lists individual games for one to four players and online play for two to four.
The official US Nintendo page lists American English, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. That broad page-level language list should be read alongside the Japanese-only status of the two titles noted above; it does not mean every included game is available in every listed language.

- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
Are player reviews different from critic reviews?
Yes. Steam’s listing snapshot on October 8, 2026 showed 29 user reviews, 55% positive, and an overall “Mixed” label. That is a separate, changeable user-review measure, not part of Metacritic’s critic aggregate, and it should not be treated as a stable score.

What the reviews do—and do not—establish
The available evidence supports a cautious conclusion: critics recognize variety and useful collection features, while questioning the strength of the lineup and translation consistency. The four-review Metacritic sample is for PS5 only; it does not establish a platform-wide consensus, nor does it rank the collection against other retro anthologies. The Steam figure reflects users and can change independently.
Rank #4
- Explore each stage and then find even more secrets by making your way through the stage backwards on the flip side
- Overcome varied enemies and obstacles, like Zombie Guys, Skelesaurus, Ukiki, and Monty Mole as you seek out hidden collectables; ESRB Content: Mild Cartoon Violence; Genre: Action, Platformer
- Pass a Joy Con controller to a friend for 2 player cooperative exploration
- Clad Yoshi in collectable, protective, handicraft costumes as he makes his way through each stage
For a prospective player, the key consideration is whether the specific River City, Kunio-kun, and arcade selections appeal to you. The collection’s range and suspend-save and multiplayer features may matter more to someone exploring Technos history than a player looking for a uniformly strong lineup or expecting every title to be localized.
