“The program can’t start because sweetpeasupport.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”

You may also see “The code execution cannot proceed because sweetpeasupport.dll was not found,” “The specified module could not be found,” or “sweetpeasupport.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”

sweetpeasupport.dll is an Adobe application file, not a Windows system component. It has been found in Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Audition, Media Encoder, and Photoshop Elements Organizer installations. The safest repair is to restore the matching Adobe installation rather than downloading an isolated DLL.

Which fix applies to you

Use the description that matches your situation:

  • The file is missing from an Adobe folder: Repair or reinstall the specific Adobe application.
  • Your antivirus recently quarantined it: Check quarantine history and restore it only if the security product confirms it is the original Adobe file.
  • The file exists, but the message says “specified module could not be found”: A dependency may be missing. Check the complete error and repair the relevant Microsoft runtime.
  • The error started after an Adobe update: The installation may be incomplete or contain mixed builds. Reinstall the affected product.
  • Adobe crashes even though the DLL exists: Reset preferences, clear plug-in caches, and test without third-party plug-ins.
  • Other Windows programs also fail: Run DISM and SFC after checking whether the problem concerns a Windows component.
  • You installed an unofficial Adobe modification: Remove it and reinstall Adobe from the official Creative Cloud installation.

Before changing anything, note the exact Adobe executable named in the dialog, the complete error text, and the folder path shown in any crash report.

What sweetpeasupport.dll is and where it belongs

sweetpeasupport.dll is an Adobe application DLL. It is not normally meant to be placed in:

C:WindowsSystem32

or:

C:WindowsSysWOW64

Adobe crash reports have shown copies in application-specific locations such as:

C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe After Effects 2023Support FilesSweetPeaSupport.dll
C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Premiere Pro 2020SweetPeaSupport.dll
C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Audition 2023SweetPeaSupport.dll
C:Program FilesAdobeElements 2021 OrganizerSweetPeaSupport.dll

The exact path depends on the Adobe product and release. The file’s internal purpose is not publicly documented by Adobe, although its repeated presence beside Adobe media libraries indicates that it belongs to a shared application-support layer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Some third-party records associate a 64-bit 12.1.2.69 file with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018 and another build with After Effects CC 2019. Treat those as reported file records, not as a universal compatibility table. A DLL with the right filename but the wrong Adobe product or build can still fail.

Fix 1: Repair the affected Adobe installation

This is the most reliable fix when the file is absent, corrupted, or removed during an update.

Identify the affected product

  1. Read the error dialog and note the executable name.
  2. Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
  3. Select Details.
  4. Look for the Adobe process, such as After Effects, Premiere Pro, Audition, or Media Encoder.
  5. Right-click it and choose Open file location if the process is running.
  6. Confirm that the folder belongs to the same Adobe application that produced the error.

Do not repair a different Adobe product merely because it also contains a file with the same name. Multiple Adobe applications can carry separate copies.

Reinstall through Creative Cloud

Back up projects, custom presets, templates, and plug-in settings first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Choose All Apps.
  4. Find the affected Adobe application.
  5. Select the three-dot menu beside it.
  6. Choose Uninstall.
  7. Follow the prompts. Preserve preferences when Creative Cloud offers that option, unless you suspect the preferences are damaged.
  8. Restart Windows.
  9. Open Creative Cloud again.
  10. Return to Apps, find the same product, and select Install.

After installation, start the Adobe application before copying back custom plug-ins or preferences. If it opens normally, add those items back gradually. A plug-in or damaged preference can cause a startup failure that looks like a DLL problem.

If Creative Cloud cannot remove the damaged installation, use Adobe’s official Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, then reinstall the affected product. The Cleaner Tool is more disruptive than a normal uninstall, so use it after documenting the product and backing up your settings.

How to tell whether this worked

The repair succeeded if:

  • The application starts without the DLL message.
  • The expected Adobe folder contains the file.
  • The application loads a project or reaches its normal start screen.
  • Windows Security does not immediately quarantine the file again.

If the same error returns immediately after a clean reinstall, check antivirus history and dependencies before attempting another manual copy.

Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine

Security software may remove one file from an otherwise intact Adobe installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Choose Protection history.
  4. Look for an action involving SweetPeaSupport.dll or the Adobe application folder.
  5. Open the event and review the detected path.
  6. Restore the file only when the path is clearly inside the genuine Adobe installation and the security product identifies it as a trusted original.
  7. Start Adobe again.

Do not permanently disable antivirus protection. Do not create an exclusion for a file copied from an unknown source. If the file is repeatedly removed, update the security product, submit the detection to its vendor for review, and reinstall Adobe from Creative Cloud.

A quarantine event is especially relevant if the DLL exists after reinstall but disappears as soon as Adobe starts.

Fix 3: Check for a missing dependency

“Specified module could not be found” does not always mean that sweetpeasupport.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load one of the DLL’s dependencies.

Look at the full message carefully. If it names a file such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll, repair the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable rather than downloading sweetpeasupport.dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use Microsoft’s current Visual C++ Redistributable packages and install the architecture required by the affected Adobe component. A 64-bit Adobe application generally needs the x64 package, while a 32-bit helper or plug-in may require x86. Installing only x64 does not automatically satisfy every 32-bit component.

After installing or repairing the runtime:

  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Launch the Adobe application.
  3. Check whether the original error has changed.
  4. If the dialog now names another missing dependency, repair that dependency instead of replacing the Adobe DLL.

There is no verified single Visual C++ release that applies to every Adobe build containing this file.

Fix 4: Reset Adobe preferences and plug-ins

Use this path when the DLL is present but Adobe crashes during startup.

For other Adobe applications, use their preference-reset shortcut or rename the application’s preferences folder after closing Adobe processes. Temporarily move third-party plug-ins out of the product’s plug-in folder and test again. If Adobe starts, restore plug-ins one at a time until the failing component is identified.

This fix is appropriate for a startup crash, not for a genuinely missing file immediately after installation.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components only when evidence points to Windows

SFC and DISM repair protected Windows files. They do not normally recreate an Adobe-private DLL. Use them when other Windows applications also fail, Windows components are damaged, or the complete error names a Windows file.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  1. Wait for it to finish.
  2. Run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Launch the affected Adobe product again.

DISM should run before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test. If both commands complete without fixing Adobe, return to the Adobe installation and dependency checks rather than repeating them indefinitely.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The manual process of interpreting repeated DISM and SFC results can be difficult when several Windows components are involved. Outbyte PC Repair provides a free scan that shows what it identifies, while repairs are handled by the full version; reinstalling the affected Adobe application remains the definitive fix for this app-specific DLL.

Fix 6: Do not update drivers unless the error identifies a driver

Graphics drivers, DirectX, and Windows Update are not first-line fixes for a missing Adobe-private DLL. Consider them only when the complete crash report names a graphics component, rendering fails after startup, or other graphics applications are also affected.

If a driver update is justified:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Display adapters.
  4. Right-click the graphics adapter.
  5. Select Update driver.
  6. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  7. Restart Windows and test Adobe.

For a clean vendor update, use the graphics manufacturer’s official support channel. Do not replace sweetpeasupport.dll with a driver file.

Manually checking several hardware vendors and matching driver versions can take time. Outbyte Driver Updater offers a free scan to identify outdated drivers, while installation is handled by the full version; a driver update still will not replace a damaged Adobe installation.

Why regsvr32 usually does not help

Do not run:

regsvr32 sweetpeasupport.dll

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide the COM registration function DllRegisterServer. An ordinary private Adobe runtime DLL does not become usable by registering it. The likely result is an error saying that the module loaded but DllRegisterServer was not found.

Registration also does not repair missing dependencies, restore a quarantined file, or match incompatible Adobe builds.

Avoid isolated DLL downloads and manual copying

Downloading this file from a random DLL website is risky because the file may contain malware, target the wrong architecture, belong to a different Adobe build, or fail because another dependency is missing.

Do not copy it into System32, SysWOW64, or another Adobe product’s folder. Windows normally searches the application directory before system directories, and Adobe expects a product-matched group of private files.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Manual restoration is reasonable only when all of these conditions are met:

  • Antivirus confirms that the quarantined file is the original trusted Adobe file.
  • The replacement comes from an identical, verified Adobe installation or official installation media.
  • It is restored to the exact Adobe application directory.
  • Its digital signature and version match the surrounding Adobe files.

Reinstalling the affected product is safer.

Prevention and final escalation checklist

To reduce repeat failures:

  • Keep Creative Cloud and the affected Adobe application updated through official channels.
  • Avoid unofficial patches and modified installers.
  • Keep antivirus protection active and review quarantine history after Adobe updates.
  • Back up projects, presets, and plug-ins before repairing Adobe.
  • Do not mix DLLs between Adobe products or releases.
  • Keep adequate free disk space during updates.
  • Restore plug-ins gradually after a successful reinstall.

If the problem remains, collect:

  • The exact error text.
  • The Adobe product and build.
  • The executable named in the dialog.
  • The full DLL path.
  • Whether the file exists.
  • Antivirus actions and quarantine details.
  • Any named dependency such as VCRUNTIME140.dll.
  • Relevant Event Viewer application errors.
  • Whether the failure affects every Windows user profile.

FAQ

Is sweetpeasupport.dll a Windows file?

No. It is an Adobe application DLL and should normally remain in the Adobe product’s private installation folder.

Is it used only by After Effects?

No. Public Adobe crash reports show it in After Effects, Premiere Pro, Audition, and Photoshop Elements Organizer installations. The exact product and build must be identified before repairing it.

Will installing Visual C++ fix it?

Only if the error actually identifies a missing Microsoft runtime dependency. Visual C++ does not replace sweetpeasupport.dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I use SFC or DISM first?

Use them when Windows components or other applications are also failing. For an Adobe-only missing DLL, repair or reinstall Adobe first. If you do run both commands, run DISM before SFC.

Can I register the DLL with regsvr32?

No. This file is not established as a self-registering COM component, so regsvr32 is not an appropriate repair.

Why does the error remain when the file is present?

A dependency may be missing, the file may be corrupted, the Adobe build may be mismatched, or a plug-in or preference may be crashing the application. Check the complete error and repair the Adobe installation rather than copying another DLL.
