- “This application failed to start because swing32.dll was not found.”
- “The file swing32.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: swing32.dll. Please install the application again.”
- “Error loading swing32.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The program can’t start because swing32.dll is missing from your computer.”
These messages are commonly reported variants rather than official Microsoft or Friendly Software documentation.
The message may appear after:
- Reinstalling the golf game incompletely
- Restoring an old backup
- Cleaning unused files from the disk
- Updating or moving the game
- Antivirus quarantine
- Copying only part of the original program
- Running an old 32-bit application on a newer Windows installation
If the error says “The specified module could not be found,” swing32.dll may already exist but another dependency may be missing.
Fix swing32.dll errors in order
1. Repair or reinstall AboutGolf
This is the most likely solution because swing32.dll belongs to the game, not Windows.

- Right-click the game shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Note the path shown in Target or Start in.
- Open that folder in File Explorer.
- Check whether
swing32.dllis present beside the game’s executable.
If the file is missing, do not immediately copy a replacement from the internet. Use the original installer, installation disc, trusted backup, or a launcher repair function.
Use a repair option if available
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps on Windows 11 or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find AboutGolf or the related game.
- Select the three-dot menu on Windows 11, or select the application on Windows 10.
- Choose Advanced options, Modify, Repair, or a similarly named option if available.
- Complete the repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the game again.
Some older programs do not appear with a repair option. In that case, run the original installer and choose Repair if it is offered.
Reinstall from original media
If repair is unavailable:
- Back up saved games if they are stored in the game folder.
- Uninstall the game from Settings → Apps.
- Restart the computer.
- Run the original installer as an administrator.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Install the game into its original folder unless the installer requires another location.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the game from its installed shortcut.
A complete reinstall restores companion files that a single-DLL download cannot provide. It also prevents the next missing dependency from appearing immediately after you replace swing32.dll.
If you no longer have the installer, check original discs, a trusted backup, or contact aboutGOLF support. Do not use a random DLL archive as the primary recovery source.
How to tell whether this worked
The repair succeeded if:
- The game opens without the
swing32.dllmessage. - The DLL is present in the game’s own installation folder.
- No new companion-DLL error appears.
- The game reaches its menu or starts a round normally.
If the same message remains, confirm that you are launching the repaired installation rather than an old shortcut pointing to another folder.

2. Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove a file from an old game directory. Do not disable antivirus globally to restore it.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries related to the game folder or
swing32.dll. - Open the detection to see its path, detection name, and action.
- Restore the file only if the installation is trusted and you have determined that the detection is a false positive.
- Prefer reinstalling from trusted original media after reviewing the detection.
- Scan the installer before running it.
Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file can expose the device if the file is genuinely malicious. Protection History is also retained for only a limited period, so an older quarantine event may no longer be listed.

Record the detection name and contact the game vendor or your security software provider.
3. Confirm that the file is in the correct folder
Application DLLs normally belong beside the executable that loads them.
To check the correct location:
- Right-click the game shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Read the executable path under Target.
- Open that folder.
- Look for
swing32.dllin the same application directory. - If you have a verified copy from the original installer or backup, restore it to that application directory only.
- Start the game again.
Do not place it in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 merely because the filename ends in .dll.
System32 is the normal Windows system directory on 64-bit Windows, while SysWOW64 stores many 32-bit Windows system components. Neither directory is a general-purpose storage location for third-party application files. Putting the wrong DLL there can affect unrelated programs and make future troubleshooting harder.
4. Check whether the error names a missing dependency
A DLL can exist and still fail to load because another file it requires is absent or incompatible.
Pay attention to the complete error:
- “The specified module could not be found” can indicate a missing dependency.
- “Not designed to run on Windows” can indicate a corrupt or mismatched binary.
0xc000007bcan indicate mixed 32-bit and 64-bit components or another architecture problem.- A message naming
msvcp*.dllorvcruntime*.dllpoints to a Visual C++ runtime issue, not necessarily a damagedswing32.dll. - A message naming
d3dx9_*.dll,xinput1_3.dll, orxaudio2_7.dllmay point to legacy DirectX components.
A reported 32-bit application needs 32-bit dependencies, even when it runs on 64-bit Windows. Do not assume that installing an x64 package repairs a 32-bit game.
Only install a runtime when the error specifically identifies it:

- For Microsoft Visual C++ files, use Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.
There is no confirmed Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET package identified as the owner of swing32.dll itself.
5. Use compatibility settings for an older game
Restoring the DLL may not solve an operating-system compatibility problem. Very old games can fail because of obsolete graphics, installer, permission, or display assumptions.
Try compatibility settings on the game executable:
- Open the game’s installation folder.
- Right-click the main
.exefile. - Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version only if the program’s documentation or your previous installation used it.
- Select Run this program as an administrator if the game needs permission to write to its installation folder.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start the game.
If the game becomes less stable, return to the same screen and remove the compatibility setting. Compatibility mode cannot replace a missing DLL, but it can help when the complete installation is present and the failure is caused by old program behavior.
6. Update graphics and system drivers when the game fails differently
A graphics driver is not the normal fix for a missing swing32.dll message. Consider driver troubleshooting only if the DLL has been restored but the game crashes, displays a blank screen, or fails during graphics initialization.
Check the graphics adapter:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
You can also select Properties → Driver to review the driver status and date. If Windows reports that the best driver is already installed, obtain the driver from the computer or graphics hardware manufacturer rather than installing an unknown driver package.
Manually hunting through hardware pages, matching model numbers, and deciding which of several driver packages is appropriate can be error-prone. Reinstalling AboutGolf remains the definitive fix for a missing swing32.dll.
7. Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They normally cannot restore a third-party game DLL.
Use them when the swing32.dll failure coincides with broader Windows problems, such as damaged system features, repeated application failures, or corruption affecting multiple programs.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run System File Checker
After DISM completes:
- Open an elevated Command Prompt again.
- Enter:
sfc /scannow
- Press Enter.
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Try the game again.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the application. If it reports that no integrity violations were found, that does not prove swing32.dll is present. It only means protected Windows files passed the check.

Running these commands repeatedly without knowing what changed rarely helps when the missing file belongs to AboutGolf. 8. Use System Restore after a recent system change
System Restore is appropriate when the game worked recently and the problem began after a driver, application, or system change.

- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the programs and drivers that may be changed.
- Select Close, then Next.
- Select Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart and complete the process.
You can also open Control Panel → Recovery → Open System Restore.
System Restore normally does not remove personal files, but it can affect system files, registry settings, installed programs, and drivers. If no suitable restore point exists, return to repairing or reinstalling the original game.
What not to do

Unofficial DLL downloads can contain malware, the wrong version, the wrong architecture, or a file intended for a different product. Even a clean file may not fix the problem if the game’s other files are missing.
A file archive listing does not prove that the file is safe or correct for your installation. Use the original AboutGolf installer, original media, a verified backup, or vendor support.
Do not copy swing32.dll into System32 or SysWOW64
Those folders are not interchangeable application-DLL locations. Copying a third-party file there can cause conflicts, permission problems, and confusing loader behavior. Keep an application DLL in the folder containing the executable that needs it.
Do not use regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering COM or OLE DLLs that provide registration functions such as DllRegisterServer.

There is no reliable public evidence establishing that swing32.dll is such a component. Running:
regsvr32 swing32.dll
is therefore not a standard repair. It may produce “DllRegisterServer entry point was not found,” and it does not restore a missing game installation.
Use registration only when the software vendor specifically instructs you to register that DLL and confirms that it is a self-registering component.

Do not assume SFC will replace it
SFC protects Windows system files. It does not normally download or restore a DLL belonging to AboutGolf.com Golf Game. A clean SFC result does not mean the game installation is complete.
