syncinfrastructureps.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows component, not a file you should download from a random DLL site. If Windows says it is missing, not found, corrupt, or could not be loaded, repair Windows first, then investigate the application that displays the error.
What syncinfrastructureps.dll is
The file is described as the Microsoft Windows sync infrastructure proxy stub. It belongs to Windows Sync infrastructure and the native synchronization APIs, which allow software and Windows components to communicate with synchronization providers.

It is a protected Windows file rather than a Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or ordinary game dependency. An application may trigger the error while starting, but that does not prove the application installed or owns the DLL.

On 64-bit Windows, System32 contains native 64-bit system files. SysWOW64 contains the 32-bit system files used by 32-bit programs through Windows redirection. The folders’ names are confusing, so do not choose a replacement based only on the folder name or file size.

What the error message really means
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because syncinfrastructureps.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “This application failed to start because syncinfrastructureps.dll was not found.”
- “syncinfrastructureps.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “Error loading syncinfrastructureps.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “A required component is missing: syncinfrastructureps.dll.”
The wording is important, but it does not identify the root cause by itself. A missing DLL may have been deleted, quarantined, damaged during servicing, or replaced by an incorrect copy.
Also, “the specified module could not be found” can mean that Windows found the named DLL but could not find one of its dependencies. The error does not always mean that the visible file alone is absent.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Fix 1: Install Windows updates and restart
Start with Windows Update because a pending or incomplete update can leave protected components inconsistent.
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install everything offered.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Open the affected application again.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart.
If the error began immediately after an update, do not install a replacement DLL. Complete all pending updates first, then continue with the repair commands below.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
This is the most important repair sequence for a missing or damaged protected Windows file. Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker because DISM repairs the component store that SFC uses as its source.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. It may appear to pause for a while.
- After DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the program again.
A successful DISM operation means the Windows image was repaired or found to be healthy. SFC may report that it found no integrity violations, repaired corrupted files, or could not repair some files.
If SFC reports that it could not repair everything, review its details with:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log >"%userprofile%Desktopsfcdetails.txt"
This places a smaller report on the desktop. It is useful to support technicians, but do not copy a DLL from a search result based on an entry in that log.
Repeating SFC without knowing whether the component store changed is frustrating when you are troubleshooting manually. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what it identifies; its free scan shows what is wrong, while repair is handled by the full version. It is optional, and Windows Update, DISM, and SFC remain the authoritative repair path for this Microsoft file.
If Windows Update is unusable, DISM can use a compatible repair source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with a real path to matching Windows installation files. Do not use an arbitrary folder or a different Windows edition and architecture.
Microsoft’s System File Checker and DISM instructions provide the supported command sequence.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine a legitimate system file after a detection, cleanup action, or malware incident. Check the quarantine history before attempting any replacement.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
syncinfrastructureps.dll. - Note the reported path and detection name.
Only restore or allow the file if all of the following are true:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- The path is the expected Windows directory.
- The file is digitally signed by Microsoft.
- The detection is clearly a false positive.
- You have scanned the system and understand why the quarantine occurred.
Do not restore a copy from AppData, Downloads, a temporary folder, or an application directory merely because its filename matches. Microsoft describes this history and restore process in Protection History in Windows Security.
If malware may have caused the deletion, update Defender’s definitions and run a full scan. If Windows Security reports an active threat, remove the threat first, then run DISM and SFC again.
Fix 4: Check for an impostor or wrong architecture
A Microsoft-style filename does not prove that every copy is genuine. Check the file path and signature.
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to
C:WindowsSystem32. - If present, right-click
syncinfrastructureps.dll. - Select Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports a valid Microsoft signature.
On 64-bit Windows, also inspect C:WindowsSysWOW64 when a 32-bit application is involved. A 32-bit program may load the redirected 32-bit copy, while a 64-bit program uses the native copy.

If the file is instead in an application folder, AppData, Downloads, or a temporary directory, treat it as a possible duplicate or impersonator. Do not overwrite the Windows copy with it. Scan the system, remove unofficial duplicates when you are certain they are not required by a legitimate application, and repair Windows using DISM and SFC.
Fix 5: Repair the program that reports the error
If the error appears only when launching one application, the application may have a damaged installation, an incorrect local DLL, or a missing dependency. This does not establish that the program originally supplied syncinfrastructureps.dll.

Do not copy syncinfrastructureps.dll into the game directory from a DLL repository. Reinstalling the affected program is the definitive fix only when the evidence points to that program’s own files.
Fix 6: Consider drivers only when there is a separate hardware problem
syncinfrastructureps.dll is not a hardware driver. Driver reinstallation is low priority unless Device Manager also shows a related device error.
To check:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart if Windows installs an update.
Do not remove working drivers simply because this DLL error appeared. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify what needs attention; its free scan shows the findings, while installation is handled by the full version. Use it only as an optional convenience, and treat a separate Device Manager or hardware symptom as the reason to pursue driver repair.
Reinstalling Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET is not an established fix for this particular Windows component. Install those runtimes only when the application gives a separate, specific runtime error.

Fix 7: Reinstall Windows components without deleting your files
If Windows Update, DISM, and SFC do not restore the component, escalate rather than manually copying a DLL.
On supported Windows 11 versions:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select System > Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the prompts.
This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings. Back up important data first.
If that option is unavailable, use System Restore if the problem began after a recent update, cleanup utility, or system change:
- Open Start.
- Type
Create a restore point. - Open the matching result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs and complete the restore.
If no suitable restore point exists, use Windows recovery options or matching installation media. Reset this PC and installation-media repair are later steps, so back up personal files and confirm which apps will be removed before proceeding. Microsoft’s Windows recovery options explains the available paths.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random website
There is no verified official Microsoft standalone download package for syncinfrastructureps.dll. Third-party DLL downloads can contain malware, use the wrong Windows build, use the wrong architecture, or leave the damaged component store untouched.
Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, Windows recovery, or the affected application’s official installer instead.
Do not use registry cleaners
A registry cleaner cannot reconstruct a protected Windows component. It can remove registrations or settings that another application needs and make diagnosis harder.
Do not use regsvr32 as a first repair
regsvr32 registers certain self-registering DLLs. It does not restore a missing file, repair corruption, or replace a damaged Windows component.

FAQ
Is syncinfrastructureps.dll a virus?
The genuine file is a Microsoft Windows component. A copy in System32 or SysWOW64 with a valid Microsoft signature is reassuring, but the filename alone proves nothing. An unsigned copy in an application folder or user profile deserves a malware scan.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not for this file alone. It is part of Windows Sync infrastructure, not an identified redistributable package. Repair Windows first and follow any separate runtime message from the affected application.
Why does the error mention a game or app?
The program may be the first component that calls the missing Windows function. That does not mean the game supplied the DLL. If only one program fails, repair or reinstall that program after checking Windows integrity.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhich folder is correct?
On 64-bit Windows, native 64-bit files normally belong in C:WindowsSystem32, while 32-bit files are handled through C:WindowsSysWOW64. Do not manually move files between them.
What if DISM and SFC finish successfully but the error remains?
Check the error’s full path, inspect Windows Security Protection history, and look for an application-local duplicate or missing dependency. Then use the program’s Repair option or official installer. If the issue began after a Windows change, use Windows Update reinstall, System Restore, or installation media.
