Then choose the next check based on when the crash happens: Windows startup crashes have different troubleshooting leads from crashes while loading a mod. None of these steps is guaranteed to fix every PC, but they provide a practical order for narrowing down the cause.
Start with three basic checks
- Verify the game files in Steam. Open your Steam Library, right-click Tabletop Simulator, select Properties, then Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files. Steam will check the installation and replace files it finds damaged or missing. This is among the initial steps in the official troubleshooting guide.
- Update your graphics driver. Get the appropriate current driver for your GPU from its manufacturer. If the crash continues, note the GPU model and driver version; the official patch notes request those details when reporting issues.
- Restart Steam and your PC. Close and reopen Steam, then restart the computer if the crash persists. The official guide includes both as first-line checks.
If Tabletop Simulator crashes on startup in Windows
Try the following Windows-specific checks if the game closes before you can reach a table. They are troubleshooting leads, not proof that any one program or dependency is responsible.
Check Visual C++ 2012 Redistributables
The official troubleshooting guide names the Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributables in both x86 and x64 versions and advises reinstalling both for startup problems. Use Microsoft’s official installer sources, and check that both architectures are covered; installing only the version that matches Windows does not follow the game guide’s recommendation.
Temporarily exit MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner
The guide lists MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner as possible conflicts. Exit them temporarily and test the game. If there is no change, reopen them; if the crash stops, investigate their settings or compatibility rather than leaving monitoring or tuning software disabled indefinitely.

Check security software without disabling protection broadly
Firewall or antivirus software can block the game. Check its alert history or application rules for Tabletop Simulator. If you find a block, use the security product’s controls to allow the game executable or exclude it from modified-application detection, as appropriate. Do not turn off general protection as a blanket troubleshooting step.
If the crash happens while loading a mod
When the base game launches but crashes loading a Workshop item or other mod, test the game’s Full Size Textures setting. The configuration menu documentation suggests unchecking it when mods crash the game. Change that setting, retry the same content, and note whether the result changes. If only one item triggers the crash, include its Workshop link in any support report.

Test renderer and launch options one change at a time
The current official patch notes describe Vulkan as experimental on Windows and Linux. If you have switched to Vulkan and stability worsened, return to the default renderer. The notes say: “If you hit visual glitches or stability problems, switch back to the default renderer.”
Launch options can also help isolate a cause, but they are diagnostics rather than universal fixes. The official troubleshooting guide documents -nosteam as an example. Add or remove only one option at a time, test, and revert it if the crash gets worse. Do not apply Linux-specific options such as -force-opengl or -force-gfx-st as Windows fixes; the guide lists those in its Linux advice.

Collect a log if the crash continues
A useful report lets support connect the crash to your system and, where relevant, the specific mod. Enable logging by typing /log in chat or adding -log to the game’s launch options. On Windows, the patch notes give this Player.log location:
