Take-Two Interactive announced in November 2024 that it had sold its Private Division publishing label. The sale is complete, not an ongoing process. Take-Two said the buyer acquired rights to substantially all of the label’s live and unreleased titles, while Take-Two would continue supporting No Rest for the Wicked.

Who bought Private Division?

Take-Two did not identify the buyer or disclose a sale price in its November 2024 announcement. In January 2025, Gematsu reported Bloomberg’s identification of Haveli Investments as the buyer. The report said Haveli would fund a new company run by former Annapurna Interactive staff to distribute former Private Division titles; it said that company did not yet have a name at the time. The report is the basis for the buyer identification, rather than a buyer named by Take-Two. The available information does not establish the successor publisher’s current legal name or operating status.

What did the sale include—and what did Take-Two keep?

Take-Two said the buyer purchased rights to “substantially all” of Private Division’s live and unreleased titles. That wording does not mean every game or all intellectual property transferred. Take-Two specifically said it would continue to support Moon Studios’ No Rest for the Wicked, which entered PC Early Access in April 2024. Take-Two’s announcement did not describe the exception as a transfer to the buyer.

Private Division’s portfolio included games such as The Outer Worlds, Kerbal Space Program 2, OlliOlli World, Rollerdrome and Hades, as well as the then-upcoming Tales of the Shire. These are examples of titles associated with the label, not a definitive list of what was included in the transaction or what remains with the successor publisher. Take-Two’s 2025 proxy materials later said independent titles had been removed from the company’s announced pipeline following the sale.

  • The outer worlds is a new single-player first-person sci-fi rpg from obsidian entertainment and private division
  • In the outer worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to halcyon, the furthest colony from earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all-vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. Why did Take-Two sell the label?

Take-Two said the strategic decision would let it focus resources on its core and mobile businesses. On the November 6, 2024 investor call, CEO and chairman Strauss Zelnick explained that the label’s games were sizeable but not on the scale of the company’s biggest franchises: “The titles, though big, were not big in the context of our core intellectual properties at 2K and Rockstar.” PC Gamer’s account of the call transcribed that remark. It describes management’s rationale, not an independent judgment about the games’ quality or commercial performance.

What happened to Roll7 and Intercept Games?

Reports around the transaction said Roll7, the studio behind OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome, and Intercept Games, the studio behind Kerbal Space Program 2, had closed before the sale. Those reported closures preceded the transaction; they are distinct from the sale of Private Division as a publishing label and the transfer of rights to substantially all its live and unreleased titles. IGN reported on the closures and sale.

What does the sale mean for Private Division’s games?

The sale changed who held publishing rights to substantially all of the label’s live and unreleased titles, according to Take-Two. It does not, on its own, establish a game’s development status, future updates, availability, or the ownership or continued operation of each original studio. Take-Two’s stated support for No Rest for the Wicked is the explicit exception it named. In September 2025, its proxy materials noted that independent titles had been removed from its announced pipeline following the sale; that confirms the titles were no longer in that pipeline, not the current plans for each game.
