To complete Tale of Gold Leaves: Volume II in Where Winds Meet, finish Feast of Leaves: Volume II, investigate Jiang’s Teahouse and Hopewell Academy, read three old files at the Patrol and Inspection Agency, then meet Zheng Ran at Willow Bank and use Tai Chi to gather the fallen leaves.
Unlock the quest and find Jiang’s Teahouse
Tale of Gold Leaves: Volume II is a Worldly Affairs side quest. Complete Feast of Leaves: Volume II first. Then head to Jiang’s Teahouse, northwest of the Forsaken Quarter boundary stone in Kaifeng City, and look for the storybook on a bench beside Pinggu Wen. Pinggu Wen will not tell the story directly, so inspect the book to begin the investigation.
Guide maps do not use entirely consistent location labels: one guide places the quest in South Gate Avenue. If that label does not match what you see, use the in-game quest marker and the prerequisite as your orientation.
Investigate the missing story
Ask Chen Xuewe about the truants
Go to Hopewell Academy and speak with Chen Xuewe. He asks you to find three children who have skipped class: Xu Xuan, Hu Qiaoqiao, and Chen Wenwen. Search the nearby compound for them, then continue once the objective directs you to the agency’s records.

Read the three old files
Set the in-game time to between Xu and Yin hours. Use Veil of Stillness to sneak into the Patrol and Inspection Agency, then read all three old files. The key is to examine each file; the clues explain the stories of people who saw leaves but could not identify one permanent hero.
Deduce who the immortal warrior was
Leave the agency and find a safe place to connect the clues. The accounts describe multiple leaves and a warrior who appeared differently, with one person replacing another. The conclusion is that there was no single immortal warrior: everyone was the warrior.

Eavesdrop at Zheng Ran’s home
Go to Zheng Ran’s home and eavesdrop on her conversation with Granny Liu. When the conversation ends, speak with Granny Liu.
Return at Chen hour
Come back to Zheng Ran’s home at Chen hour to look for her. If the objective does not update, one walkthrough recommends advancing to Chen hour on the following day and checking again.
Meet Zheng Ran at Willow Bank
Find Zheng Ran at Willow Bank. Tell her that the leaf was taken by the wind and only the wind can bring it back. This advances the quest to its final action.
Use Tai Chi to return the leaf
Stand near the fallen leaves and use Tai Chi to gather them. This completes Tale of Gold Leaves: Volume II.

This quest is distinct from the similarly named Volume I and Volume III. Game8 lists Tale of Gold Leaves: Volume II as a prerequisite for Memory’s Leaf and A Step Above; those later quests do not change its own unlock requirement.
