Magic: The Gathering’s Tarkir: Dragonstorm introduced five clan mechanics alongside new dragon-themed card treatments, five ready-to-play Commander decks, and clan-specific prerelease packs. The set launched on MTG Arena on April 8, 2025, and worldwide tabletop release followed on April 11. This guide explains how the mechanics work, what came in each product, and which treatments appeared in which boosters.

What are the new mechanics in Tarkir: Dragonstorm?

Each of Tarkir’s five clans has a signature mechanic: Abzan has endure, Jeskai has flurry, Sultai has renew, Mardu has mobilize, and Temur has harmonize. The set also uses Omens, behold, monocolor hybrid mana, and the evergreen mechanic surveil. The explanations below follow Wizards of the Coast’s March 18, 2025 mechanics guide.

Endure — Abzan

When a creature with endure N’s ability resolves, choose one: put N +1/+1 counters on that creature, or create an N/N white Spirit creature token. If the creature that had the ability is no longer on the battlefield as the ability resolves, you create the Spirit instead.

Flurry — Jeskai

Flurry marks triggered abilities that trigger when you cast your second spell in a turn. The ability’s effect varies by card. Your first spell does not have to resolve: it may still be on the stack, or it may have been countered.

Renew — Sultai

Renew abilities are activated from the graveyard. Each one requires you to exile that card as part of the activation cost and can be activated only at sorcery timing. The effects put counters on creatures, sometimes with an additional effect.

Mobilize — Mardu

When a creature with mobilize attacks, it creates the indicated number of tapped and attacking 1/1 red Warrior creature tokens. Those tokens are sacrificed at the beginning of the next end step.

Harmonize — Temur

Harmonize lets you cast a card from your graveyard for its harmonize cost. As an additional cost, you may tap an untapped creature you control to reduce the generic mana you pay by that creature’s power. The card still uses its harmonize cost; the tapped creature reduces only the generic portion.

Omens

Some Dragons have an instant or sorcery Omen spell printed on the same card. When casting the card, choose whether to cast the creature or its Omen. If the Omen spell resolves, follow its instructions, then shuffle the card into its owner’s library.

Behold

To behold a Dragon, choose a Dragon you control or reveal a Dragon card from your hand when the spell asks you to do so.

Monocolor hybrid mana

Sometimes called “twobrid,” this mana symbol can be paid with its indicated color or with two generic mana. It contributes two to the card’s mana value, and paying it with generic mana does not change the card’s colors.

Surveil

Surveil N means look at the top N cards of your library, put any number of them into your graveyard, then put the rest back on top in any order. Wizards describes surveil as evergreen rather than a mechanic unique to this set.

What are the card treatments in Tarkir: Dragonstorm?

Wizards’ March 2025 collecting guide describes treatments across Play and Collector Boosters, with some versions exclusive to Collector Boosters. The booster category determines which treatments may appear; the launch guide is not a guarantee of current stock or secondary-market value.

What came in a Tarkir: Dragonstorm prerelease pack?

The five prerelease pack versions were themed for Abzan, Jeskai, Sultai, Mardu, and Temur. The clan-specific items were the 14-card prerelease booster and matching spindown die; Wizards said an event might assign a random clan or let players choose, depending on the event. Each pack contained:

What are the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander decks?

Wizards announced five ready-to-play 100-card decks, each built around a three-color clan. The names and color identities are:
