Its remaster adds practical conveniences and a large selection of original DLC, but it does not disguise the older game beneath: critics have found its story uneven and its presentation dated. Choose your platform with performance and portability in mind, since specifications vary by version.
What kind of RPG is Tales of Graces f Remastered?
Set on Ephinea, the game follows Asbel Lhant and his friends, including Sophie, as they become entangled in conflict among three kingdoms. Bandai Namco emphasizes the themes of friendship and promises; critics have been less consistent about the story’s execution, with some noting that it takes time to get going.

This is an action RPG rather than a turn-based one. Its main appeal is the real-time battle system, where movement, timing, and changing styles matter more than simply selecting commands from a menu.
How good is the combat?
The Style-Shift Linear Motion Battle System is the remaster’s strongest reason to play. You can switch between fighting styles during battle, build combos through precise timing, and fill the Accel Mode gauge to unleash powerful abilities. That gives encounters a quick, active rhythm and room to improve as you learn when to change styles and extend a combo.

Combat is also the most consistent point of praise in the sampled reviews. If responsive, combo-focused battles are what you want from a long RPG, Graces f has a stronger case than its older presentation might initially suggest.
Where do the story and presentation fall short?
The story’s focus on friendship and promises gives the adventure a clear emotional theme, but critics describe its execution as hit-and-miss and its pacing as uneven. The narrative may take a while to gather momentum, so players looking for a consistently brisk opening should set expectations accordingly.

Nintendo Life has also described the visuals and limited maps as dated. Those are critical judgments rather than technical measurements, but they point to the trade-off: this remaster makes an older RPG more convenient to play without making it feel like a modern production.
What does the remaster add—and what is missing?
Bandai Namco says the remaster includes more than 80 pieces of DLC from the original release, though some licensed content is excluded. It also adds practical options that can make a lengthy RPG easier to navigate:

One feature did not carry over in its original form: the Trials of Graces online ranking feature is absent. Bandai Namco says it has been converted into an offline mode available from the title menu.
Which platform should you choose?
The game launched on January 17, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. Bandai Namco notes that frame-rate and graphical specifications vary by platform, so one version’s performance should not be treated as a guarantee for another.

Think about what matters most to you: portability, your preferred console or PC ecosystem, or prioritizing higher frame rates. RPG Site’s platform comparison recommends another platform for players who prioritize 60fps-or-higher play; consult its version-specific discussion rather than assuming the Switch version has equivalent performance. No precise cross-platform performance figures are established here.
