If teamviewer_resource_sr.dll is missing, TeamViewer is usually damaged, incomplete, or mismatched with the files installed beside it. This is a TeamViewer application resource file, not a Windows system DLL, so the safest repair is to rebuild the TeamViewer installation rather than copy a replacement into a Windows folder.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing anything, check:
- Does the error appear when starting TeamViewer, TeamViewer Host, QuickSupport, or an old portable copy?
- Is the exact filename
teamviewer_resource_sr.dll, or is itTeamViewer_Resource_sr.dllwith different capitalization? - Did the problem begin after an update, failed reinstall, antivirus alert, manual cleanup, disk repair, or restoring an old TeamViewer folder?
- Is Windows 10 or Windows 11 running the affected installation?
- Is the TeamViewer package 32-bit, 64-bit, or ARM64?
- Has antivirus software quarantined the file?
- Does another TeamViewer resource file, such as an English-language resource, also fail?
Common messages include:
- “The program can’t start because teamviewer_resource_sr.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “teamviewer_resource_sr.dll was not found.”
- “Cannot find teamviewer_resource_sr.dll.”
- “teamviewer_resource_sr.dll error loading.”
- “TeamViewer: Failed to load resource DLL.”
The wording varies by TeamViewer build and by whether the launcher or main executable reported the problem.

What teamviewer_resource_sr.dll is
teamviewer_resource_sr.dll is a language-resource component used by TeamViewer. The sr suffix most plausibly identifies Serbian-language resources. It is part of the application that installed it and normally sits beside the TeamViewer executable in the program’s installation directory or a temporary extracted installer directory.
It does not come with Windows. It is not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET file, hardware driver, or general-purpose system DLL.

Activation may require an existing digital license or a separately purchased valid product key. Back up important files before installation or repair.
Historical file inventories identify this filename in older 32-bit TeamViewer builds, including version 9.0.24951.0 and other older releases. Those inventories are not a complete TeamViewer version catalogue, and a file from one release should not be mixed with an executable from another.
Windows normally checks the application directory when loading an application DLL. Microsoft documents this behavior in its DLL search order documentation. That is why copying the file into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is the wrong repair.
Fix 1: Reinstall TeamViewer cleanly
This is the fastest and most reliable fix for an incomplete or damaged installation.
- Close TeamViewer from the notification area:
- Right-click the TeamViewer icon near the clock.
- Choose Exit TeamViewer, if available.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for TeamViewer.
- Select the three-dot menu, then choose Uninstall.
- Follow the uninstall wizard.
- If the wizard offers Remove settings, select it when you want a clean reinstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Download TeamViewer from its official Windows download page. Select the package matching the product you actually use:
- Full TeamViewer client
- QuickSupport
- Host
- MSI package
- 32-bit, 64-bit, or ARM64 Windows package
- Install the new package.
- Start TeamViewer before restoring old configuration files.
A successful repair opens TeamViewer without the missing-file message and places a matching group of program and resource files in the application directory. If the installer reports another missing resource DLL, the installation may be incomplete again or security software may be removing several files.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything
Security software can quarantine a TeamViewer file from the installation directory or from a temporary installer folder. It is also possible for malicious software to use TeamViewer-looking filenames, so do not blindly restore every quarantined file.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review detections from the time the TeamViewer problem began.
- Expand any detection involving TeamViewer or
teamviewer_resource_sr.dll. - Check the file path, detection name, and action taken.
- If the file came from an old temporary folder, an unexpected download, or an unusual directory, leave it quarantined.
- If you believe it is a legitimate installation file, verify the installation source and detection with your security administrator before restoring it.
- When uncertain, remove the old TeamViewer installation and install a fresh package from TeamViewer’s official download page instead.
After reinstalling, test TeamViewer before copying back old settings. If the DLL disappears again, update your security definitions, review endpoint-security rules, and run a full security scan. Repeated removal may indicate either a false positive or an unsafe TeamViewer-named file.
Fix 3: Match the architecture and TeamViewer package
A 32-bit resource file is not automatically interchangeable with a 64-bit installation. The same warning applies to files from different TeamViewer generations.
Check the package rather than trying to identify the DLL by size:
Recommended Free Tools
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select TeamViewer and note whether Windows identifies the installed package as 32-bit or 64-bit, where that information is shown.
- In TeamViewer, open Help → About TeamViewer, if the program will start far enough to show its details.
- Download the corresponding current Windows package from TeamViewer.
- Uninstall the damaged copy first.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the matching package.
Do not copy a historical 32-bit teamviewer_resource_sr.dll into a newer 64-bit client. Do not combine a DLL from TeamViewer Host, QuickSupport, a portable folder, or another computer with a different full-client installation.
Fix 4: Remove old portable and temporary copies
If only an old shortcut fails, the shortcut may point to a deleted temporary extraction directory or an outdated portable TeamViewer folder.
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Check the Target and Start in paths.
- If they point to a temporary folder, an old user profile, a removable drive, or a backup directory, close the dialog.
- Delete the obsolete copy only after confirming that it is not the active installation.
- Install a current official TeamViewer package.
- Create a new shortcut from the new installation if necessary.
If TeamViewer works under another Windows account, investigate per-user installation remnants, folder permissions, and security software rules for the affected profile.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components only when other programs are affected
Because this is a TeamViewer application file, Windows component repair will not normally recreate it. Use DISM and SFC when other Windows applications also show damaged system-file errors, Windows features fail, or the machine has broader corruption.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Choose Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run these commands in order:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow
Wait for each command to finish before starting the next one. Restart Windows when both have completed, then test TeamViewer.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command should be expected to restore a third-party TeamViewer resource DLL. If SFC reports files it could not repair, review the result and continue with the TeamViewer clean reinstall rather than copying a DLL into a system directory.
Manually hunting through repair results and repeating DISM or SFC without knowing what changed can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair provides a free scan that shows detected issues, while the repair is performed by the full version; reinstalling TeamViewer remains the definitive fix for this application file.
Fix 6: Check disk and installation integrity
A damaged disk or interrupted update can leave the executable and its resource files out of sync.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not treat regsvr32 as a general missing-DLL repair command:
regsvr32 teamviewer_resource_sr.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, typically COM components. A language-resource DLL normally does not need registration. Registering it will not recreate a deleted file, repair an incomplete TeamViewer installation, or make an incompatible DLL match the executable.
Why you should not download this DLL separately
Random DLL download sites pages can provide:
- The wrong TeamViewer release
- The wrong architecture
- A file that does not match the other resource files
- A modified or malicious file
- A copy that leaves the damaged installation unresolved
Never place a downloaded copy in System32, SysWOW64, a game directory, or another unrelated folder. Use the official TeamViewer Windows installer and let it place the matching files beside the application executable.
Do not install unrelated runtimes or drivers first
Installing Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET is not a supported way to restore this particular TeamViewer resource file.
Likewise, this is not normally a Device Manager problem. Updating a graphics, network, or chipset driver will not recreate a missing TeamViewer language resource. If other hardware is malfunctioning, you can check drivers separately:
- Press
Windows + X. - Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart if Windows installs an update.
Windows Features are also not the normal fix. To check them when another application specifically requires a Windows feature:
- Press
Windows + R. - Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review only the feature named by that application’s documentation.
- Select OK and restart if Windows makes a change.
Do not enable random features to resolve teamviewer_resource_sr.dll.
Driver version hunting can be tedious when several devices have stale or mismatched software. Outbyte Driver Updater offers a free scan showing detected driver issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version; it is not a substitute for reinstalling TeamViewer.
If the error remains after reinstalling
Use this escalation order:
- Confirm the error names the exact file
teamviewer_resource_sr.dll. - Check whether the message instead names another resource DLL.
- Confirm that the shortcut starts the newly installed TeamViewer path.
- Review antivirus quarantine and blocked-application history.
- Confirm that the downloaded package matches the client type and Windows architecture.
- Test TeamViewer before restoring old configuration files.
- Check Event Viewer, installer logs, and disk health.
- Run a full malware scan if files repeatedly disappear or appear in unusual locations.
- Use System Restore only as a fallback for a recently working computer, not as the first repair.
- Contact TeamViewer support if a clean official installation still fails.
FAQ
Is teamviewer_resource_sr.dll a Windows file?
No. It is a TeamViewer application resource file and should normally remain in the TeamViewer program or extracted installer directory.
Should I copy it to System32 or SysWOW64?
No. The application should load its own matching resource from its application directory. Copying it into a system directory creates version and security risks.
Does sr mean Serbian?
That is the most plausible interpretation of the language-resource suffix, although an official TeamViewer description for this individual filename was not located.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIs the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Historical inventories identify it in older 32-bit TeamViewer builds. Do not use that information to select a replacement for a current installation. Install the TeamViewer package matching your client and Windows architecture.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable fix it?
Usually not. This file is a TeamViewer resource DLL, not a Visual C++ runtime component.
Should I use System Restore?
Only after the normal uninstall and reinstall path fails, and only if the machine recently worked and you have a suitable restore point. Reinstalling TeamViewer is the more direct repair.
What if antivirus removed the file?
Review the detection and file path first. Do not restore an unverified copy. A clean reinstall from TeamViewer is safer when the file’s provenance is uncertain.
