The best recipe depends on what is hurting you: ordinary hearts, hearts lost to gloom, or stamina. For straightforward healing, cook food rather than relying on raw ingredients: Nintendo notes that “cooked dishes result in more hearts.” Choose a Hearty recipe when you want temporary bonus hearts, a Sunny dish for gloom damage, or an effect meal that also helps with the situation at hand.
How to choose the right recovery recipe
There is no single best recipe for every situation. Compare what each dish does: ordinary heart recovery, temporary bonus hearts, gloom recovery, stamina recovery, or protection such as cold resistance. Hearty and Sunny ingredients serve different purposes: Hearty grants extra hearts, while Sunny heals hearts damaged by gloom.
- Need regular healing: Cook ingredients into a dish; Nintendo says cooked dishes restore more hearts than raw food.
- Want extra hearts: Use a Hearty ingredient. The Hearty Elixir example below provides full recovery and temporary hearts.
- Have gloom-damaged hearts: Make a Sunny dish with Sundelion.
- Want healing alongside another benefit: Choose ingredients with an effect such as stamina recovery or cold resistance.
Recovery recipes for different situations
Energizing Steamed Mushrooms: healing plus stamina
Use a Stamella Shroom and a Stambulb. Nintendo’s example dish restores hearts and recovers stamina, making it a useful choice when you need both kinds of recovery.
Spicy Sautéed Peppers: healing plus cold resistance
Cook Spicy Pepper to make this dish. Nintendo lists heart recovery and cold resistance, so it suits situations where protection from cold is useful as well as healing.

Hearty Elixir: full recovery plus temporary hearts
Nintendo Life lists Hearty Lizard and a monster part as the ingredients for a Hearty Elixir. It restores hearts fully and grants temporary hearts. Additional Hearty ingredients can strengthen the effect, but the available recipe reference does not establish a precise maximum.
Sunny Fried Wild Greens: healing gloom-damaged hearts
Nintendo Life’s example combines Sundelion with an herb. It restores hearts and hearts damaged by gloom. This is the relevant choice for gloom recovery; ordinary Hearty effects are not a substitute for Sunny healing.

- Ultrahand: Using the new Ultrahand ability, Link can pick up, move, and rotate almost any object, and can even attach objects together to create bridges, vehicles, and more!
- Fuse: Magically fuse almost any object to Link’s current weapon, shield, or arrow to increase durability, damage, or even add a new effect. Experiment with lots of different combinations to come up with surprising—and sometimes hilarious—results!
- Ascend: Add a new dimension to your exploration with Ascend, which gives Link the ability to pass through solid objects above him. Rise up through ceilings, hillsides, and even certain enemies to create seemingly impossible shortcuts.
- Recall: Use Recall to make objects in motion move backward through time, letting Link ride fallen boulders skyward, recover thrown weapons, or send projectiles back where they came from.
Cooking basics and recipe tracking
Nintendo’s official Tears of the Kingdom guide says cooking requires a cooking pot, fire, and ingredients. Ingredient descriptors such as “stam” and “spicy” can produce dishes with special effects, and meals you make are recorded in the Recipe Book. Nintendo also recommends replenishing hearts by consuming raw food or cooked meals.
Recipe results can vary with ingredient selection, so treat the dishes above as useful examples rather than a complete ranking of every possible combination. The sources establish these effects but do not provide a tested comparison of maximum heart recovery or ingredient farming routes.
