The Royal Hidden Passage connects Lookout Landing’s Emergency Shelter with the area beneath Hyrule Castle. The easiest entrance opens after you complete one Temple; an earlier approach from Hyrule Castle is also described, but requires breaking through repeated rock barriers. Inside, you can find the Horned Statue, begin two side adventures, and search for pieces of the Soldier Set and a Bubbulfrog.
How to unlock the Royal Hidden Passage
For the straightforward route, complete one Temple, then visit the Emergency Shelter at Lookout Landing. The opening appears in a wall there. Before entering, speak with Jerrin beside the wall to start the side adventure “Who Goes There?” This progression and route are described in Game8’s Royal Hidden Passage guide.
If you have not completed a Temple, Game8 also describes reaching the passage from Hyrule Castle. This gets you there earlier, but the route involves breaking through many rock barriers. Bring a reliable way to smash rocks if you choose this approach.
Choose your entrance
| Route | When to use it | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Lookout Landing Emergency Shelter | After completing one Temple | The straightforward entrance described by Game8. |
| Hyrule Castle | Before completing a Temple | Earlier access, but expect repeated rock barriers and extra digging. |
How to reach the Horned Statue
- Enter through the opening in the Emergency Shelter wall, or use the Hyrule Castle approach if you are going early.
- Break the rocks blocking the way. Boulder Hammers and Rock Hammers are suitable options; Bomb Flowers or Zonai Time Bombs can also clear rock barriers, according to Game8’s route guide.
- Follow the voice through the passage until you reach the Horned Statue, then speak with it.
- Return to Jerrin at the Emergency Shelter to complete “Who Goes There?” Game8 lists the reward as 20 Rupees; see its “Who Goes There?” walkthrough.
For orientation while exploring, one described route passes through water and a small opening to the north. Another landmark for finding a Bubbulfrog is the alcove with the Demon Statue: from there, take the left path. These are route clues, not a complete map of the passage; the latter clue appears in Game8’s cave guide.

What the Horned Statue does
The Horned Statue lets Link trade heart containers for stamina vessels, or stamina vessels for heart containers. Speaking with it starts the side adventure “A Deal With the Statue.” The exchange and adventure are covered in Game8’s Horned Statue guide.
What else to look for in the passage
Soldier Set
The passage contains the Soldier’s Helm, Soldier’s Armor, and Soldier’s Greaves. Some pieces are behind cracked rocks, so inspect breakable walls and bring a rock-smashing method while you explore. Game8’s passage guide identifies the set, but the route details available here do not establish a complete item-by-item map.
Rank #2
- Ultrahand: Using the new Ultrahand ability, Link can pick up, move, and rotate almost any object, and can even attach objects together to create bridges, vehicles, and more!
- Fuse: Magically fuse almost any object to Link’s current weapon, shield, or arrow to increase durability, damage, or even add a new effect. Experiment with lots of different combinations to come up with surprising—and sometimes hilarious—results!
- Ascend: Add a new dimension to your exploration with Ascend, which gives Link the ability to pass through solid objects above him. Rise up through ceilings, hillsides, and even certain enemies to create seemingly impossible shortcuts.
- Recall: Use Recall to make objects in motion move backward through time, letting Link ride fallen boulders skyward, recover thrown weapons, or send projectiles back where they came from.
Bubbulfrog
From the alcove containing the Demon Statue, take the left path to follow the Bubbulfrog clue. Treat it as a lead for exploration rather than a full step-by-step location guide; see Game8’s cave guide.

These are separate side adventures associated with the passage. “Who Goes There?” begins when you speak with Jerrin near the Emergency Shelter wall, and its steps take you to the Horned Statue and back to Jerrin. “A Deal With the Statue” begins when you speak with the statue and concerns its heart-container and stamina-vessel exchange. Game8’s walkthroughs cover “Who Goes There?” and “A Deal With the Statue”.
