Temple Run 2: Frozen Shadows was a genuine expansion released on December 3, 2015. It arrived as an update to the existing Android game, not as a separate Google Play app. The expansion added a frozen world, tilt-controlled ice-luge sections, winter obstacles, artifacts, outfits and a snow-themed Demon Monkey. The headline is historical; it does not describe a new 2026 launch.
Original launch coverage: Imangi’s announcement and Google Play launch report.
What actually launched?
Frozen Shadows was a new world inside Temple Run 2. Players received it through an update to the existing game, rather than downloading an app called Frozen Shadows. Imangi announced availability across Google Play, Apple’s App Store and the Amazon Appstore.
What Frozen Shadows added
A frozen world
The map moved the endless run into icy caves, frozen forests and snowy terrain filled with sharp turns, jumps, slides and winter-themed hazards.

The ice-luge sequence
Its defining mechanical addition was an ice-luge section. Instead of only swiping through a running route, players tilted the device while sliding through ice tunnels on a Demon Monkey skull. Imangi presented the release as a substantial expansion, although that description is promotional positioning rather than an independently measured content ranking.

- Guy Dangerous’s Aviator outfit.

How to play it on Android now
- Install or update the main Temple Run 2: Endless Escape app from Google Play.
- Open the game and check its world, event and store areas for Frozen Shadows.
- If the map is not shown, update the app and check again later. Imangi’s support documentation describes access during limited-time periods and a permanent unlock for 500 gems.
That 500-gem figure comes from the support page and may not reflect the live price or access rules in every region, account or version. Do not assume the map is permanently free or immediately visible to every Android player.

Android app versus browser version
| Option | Best for | Important limits |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play app | Android players who want the current Temple Run 2 ecosystem, events and native progression. | The app is free to download but contains ads and in-app purchases. Frozen Shadows availability can vary. |
| Poki browser version | Desktop users or anyone wanting to try the map without installing Android software. | Poki requires an internet connection. Do not assume Google Play account sync, shared purchases or identical content. |
What the current listing tells us
As of August 16, 2026, Google Play still lists the main Temple Run 2: Endless Escape app, not a separate Frozen Shadows download. The listing shows ads and in-app purchases and a visible update dated June 17, 2026, featuring newer material such as Enchanted Palace, Rico Blaze, Global Challenges and Independence Day content. That live-service version is not the same build as the 2015 launch release.

Imangi’s support page lists Android 4.4 or later, iOS 10 or later and PC/HTML5 access through Poki. Those requirements come from documentation last updated in 2022, so they should not be treated as the guaranteed minimum for the 2026 Android app. Check the current Google Play compatibility notice for a specific device. Details are in Imangi’s supported-platforms article.

The Bottom Line
Frozen Shadows was a 2015 Temple Run 2 expansion, not a standalone app and not a 2026 update. Its frozen map and tilt-controlled ice-luge made it more than a visual reskin. To see whether it is playable today, use the current Temple Run 2 Android app and check the live map or store access; availability is not guaranteed to be permanently free or universal.
