Can you play solo or offline?
Yes, but Nintendo lists offline Marathon and local multiplayer modes as part of the separately purchased Big Block DLC, not as features of the free base download. The DLC is described as a one-time purchase for the digital version.

Is Tetris 99 still supported?
Nintendo Support’s update-history listing says a software update became available on January 21, 2026. It also says versions 2.1.0 through 2.5.0 are compatible with local communication in Local Arena mode. The listing does not establish what changed in the January 2026 update, so no specific gameplay or feature changes can be attributed to it here. Should you play Tetris 99?
Try it if you want familiar Tetris under the pressure of a large online battle, and you are comfortable with the membership requirement for that mode. Buy Big Block DLC if you specifically want Marathon, Local Arena, or 2P Share Battle; don’t assume those modes come with the free download. The game was released on February 13, 2019, and Tetris.com also describes it as free. Tetris.com’s game page lists that release information.
Nintendo lists compatibility with Nintendo Switch 2 and gives the file size as 1.9 GB for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. These listing details can change, so confirm the live eShop entry if compatibility or storage space is decisive.
