What the 520 million figure means
The Tetris Company’s June 5, 2026 press release states that more than 520 million copies of Tetris have been sold worldwide. It does not define “copies” or explain whether the total combines different versions, platform releases, or another basis for counting. Nor does the announcement say the figure was independently audited.
The company used a similar rounded figure in its earlier World Tetris Day announcements: over 520 million units in 2024 and again in 2025. Those repetitions show continuity in the company’s public claim, not outside verification. The 2025 announcement and the 2024 announcement are also company sources.
When is World Tetris Day?
The 2026 release was dated June 5 and looked ahead to World Tetris Day on June 6. Those are separate dates: June 5 was the announcement date; June 6 was the observance.

How the company describes Tetris’s reach
Alongside the sales total, The Tetris Company says the game was created in 1984 and is available across more than 50 platforms. It also says billions of Tetris games are played online every year, without providing a specific count or method. These are company statements, distinct from the reported copies-sold figure.
The release describes an ecosystem of licensed games, events, partnerships, and new ways to play. Its examples include a Classic Tetris World Championship event in Pasadena, a mobile event tied to rainforest protection, and Tetris availability through AirConsole in Škoda vehicles in Europe. The announcement identifies Tetris Holding, LLC as the worldwide owner of Tetris rights and The Tetris Company, Inc. as its exclusive licensee.

What the announcement says about the competitive scene
The release also points to competitive Tetris and the documentary Blue Scuti: Tetris Crasher. It said the film was streaming on Amazon Prime Video at the time of the announcement; availability may vary by region and change over time. The company release quotes CEO Maya Rogers: “What makes Tetris so remarkable is its ability to bring people together through a shared experience that transcends generations and cultures,”
