In September 2024, Team Fortress 2 campaign organizer TheWhat said a hardbound book containing more than 340,000 petition names had reached Valve headquarters. The reported delivery was a symbolic push for attention to TF2’s bot problem—not a Valve-confirmed handoff or proof that the book caused a game change.
What happened to the TF2 petition signatures?
TheWhat, an organizer of the #SaveTF2/#FixTF2 campaign, announced the book’s arrival in a post dated September 7, 2024. PC Gamer reported the announcement on September 9, attributing both the delivery and the “340,000+” count to TheWhat. The organizer described the book as a symbol of how many people love TF2 and want it to flourish. PC Gamer’s report
Tweakers reported on September 10 that the hardcover book had been delivered to Valve’s office in Bellevue, Washington. That coverage corroborates what was being reported at the time, but the signature total remains an organizer-reported figure; the cited coverage does not describe an independent audit. Why did fans send the book?
The campaign sought to draw Valve’s attention to problems disrupting public Team Fortress 2 matches. GamingOnLinux’s May 2024 coverage described community complaints about bots, cheating, disruptive voice and text chat, and bots kicking human players. Organizers said they planned a coordinated awareness effort and intended to forward every signature to Valve. GamingOnLinux’s campaign report

Turning the names into a physical book made the appeal tangible, but the gesture itself does not establish what Valve did with it. The cited coverage presents the book as advocacy, not as a retail product or an official Valve project.
Did Valve confirm the delivery or respond?
PC Gamer said it had contacted Valve for confirmation. Tweakers reported that Valve had not responded by the time its September 10, 2024 article was published. Those are reports of the status at publication; they do not establish whether Valve replied later. The cited sources do not provide a later confirmation or response to the book.

Valve did address the broader bot problem earlier. GamingOnLinux reproduced a May 2022 Valve statement: “TF2 community, we hear you! We love this game and know you do, too. We see how large this issue has become and are working to improve things.” That statement predates the 2024 book and should not be read as a response to its delivery.

The cited reports do not establish that the book’s delivery caused any particular update, policy change, or other Valve action. They document the organizer’s announcement, the campaign’s stated purpose, and contemporaneous coverage—not a causal link between the delivery and a later decision.
