It is an editorial list, not a proven universal ranking: the publisher says it weighs estimated attempts, bench runbacks, and skills the game may not teach outright. No cited source establishes player-wide death, attempt, or win-rate data.
The four hardest fights in one recent ranking
GameBoost’s September 25, 2026 ranking names these four encounters as its top picks. Its order reflects the guide’s own criteria; a player’s route, progression, and definition of difficulty can produce a different list.

Lost Lace
GameBoost ranks Lost Lace first and places the fight in the Abyss in Act 3. The guide emphasizes rapid void-dash strings that leave little time to read the next attack. WatchMojo also names Lost Lace the hardest encounter in its list, describing a varied, three-phase final fight. That supports the idea that Lost Lace has a strong difficulty reputation, but it is not evidence of a measured consensus. GameBoost’s ranking; WatchMojo’s list.

Skarrsinger Karmelita
At number two, this encounter begins with three enemy waves before Karmelita appears. GameBoost reports a 1,500 HP boss fight split across three phases. Those details come from that guide, not from a player-wide difficulty measure. GameBoost’s ranking.

First Sinner

WatchMojo also includes her among its difficult fights and describes quick movement, teleportation, self-healing, and explosive orbs. The overlapping observations identify recurring sources of pressure, not a statistically settled rank. GameBoost’s ranking; WatchMojo’s list.
-
Lace rematch
GameBoost places the Cradle rematch fourth, describing it as a test of parrying that punishes greedy attacks. Nintendo Life lists Lace at the Cradle among the mandatory Act 2 encounters. GameBoost’s ranking; Nintendo Life’s boss-order guide.

Why the hardest-boss order can change
“Hardest” can mean a fight with the tightest reaction windows, the longest stretch of clean execution, the most punishing arena, or the greatest cost when an attempt fails. GameBoost says its list factors in estimated attempts, the route back from a bench, and skill demands. Those are useful criteria, but the guide does not publish a population-wide dataset that can verify an objective order. GameBoost’s ranking and method.
- Execution pressure: Fast sequences and hard-to-read attacks can make a short mistake window decisive.
- Fight length: Multiple phases or self-healing can demand sustained consistency, not just a few successful dodges.
- Failure cost: A long route back from a bench can make the experience more frustrating even if the boss itself is manageable.
- Encounter context: Optional fights, the upgrades available when you reach them, and challenge modifiers all change the comparison.
The boss pool itself depends on what a list counts. GameBoost reports 43 bosses, or 47 when repeat encounters are included; that is the guide’s count, not an official Team Cherry statistic. Nintendo Life’s by-act guide distinguishes mandatory and optional encounters and notes that Last Judge can be skipped by taking an alternate route. Some optional fights also matter for goals beyond the normal ending. GameBoost; Nintendo Life.

Optional fights and challenge conditions matter
A ranking that includes optional encounters answers a different question from a list restricted to progression-critical bosses. Challenge conditions can shift the answer again: WatchMojo discusses Grand Mother Silk in the context of a cursed challenge that removes healing and crests and reduces silk. That is a substantially different test from an ordinary story attempt, so it should not be treated as a like-for-like comparison. WatchMojo’s list.
Silksong’s branching progression also means players may reach the same fight at different points in their exploration. In a September 18, 2025 interview, Team Cherry co-director Ari Gibson said, “The important thing for us is that we allow you to go way off the path,” describing the choices players have to follow or divert from the main route. GamesRadar+’s report on Gibson’s comments.

PC Gamer reviewer Tyler Colp praised the fights’ creativity while noting that repeating sections before some attempts could become frustrating. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a universal account of every boss runback. PC Gamer’s review.

How to use this ranking
Use the four names as a shortlist of fights that one recent guide considers especially demanding, rather than as a guarantee that they will be your personal hardest. If you are comparing your own experience, separate the boss’s mechanics from the cost of reaching it again, and note whether you fought it with optional upgrades or under a challenge modifier. That keeps a punishing runback or a special ruleset from being mistaken for the boss’s baseline difficulty.
