The Acer Nitro V 15 was the better cheaper option, while ASUS TUF A15 and HP Victus 15 models were worth considering when their individual specifications and discounts made them competitive.
Quick answer
For a U.S. buyer shopping around the $1,000 mark in 2024, the Lenovo LOQ 15 with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 was the strongest overall value—provided the specific listing really included the RTX 4060, 16GB of memory, a suitable display, and a competitive price. The Acer Nitro V 15 with an RTX 4050 was the better low-cost option, while the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 became especially attractive when a higher-powered RTX 4050 or RTX 4060 configuration was discounted.
The HP Victus 15 also deserved consideration, but only as a deal-dependent choice. Its specifications vary too widely between product numbers and regions to recommend the family as a whole.
| Pick | Configuration to look for | Best for | Main warning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lenovo LOQ 15 | RTX 4060, 16GB RAM, 512GB or 1TB SSD, 144Hz-class display | Best overall value near $1,000 | Not every LOQ 15 has an RTX 4060 or the same display |
| Acer Nitro V 15 | Core i5-13420H, RTX 4050, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 144Hz display | Lower-cost 1080p gaming | Many listings use 8GB RAM and GPU power limits vary |
| ASUS TUF Gaming A15 | RTX 4050 up to 140W or RTX 4060, 16GB RAM, 144Hz display | A well-equipped alternative at a sale price | CPU, GPU, panel, RAM, and power limit depend on the SKU |
| HP Victus 15 | RTX 4050 or better, 16GB RAM, 144Hz-class display | A retailer-specific bargain | Victus 15 hardware differs substantially by region and configuration |
1. Lenovo LOQ 15 with RTX 4060: best overall
If you could find the right configuration near or below $1,000, the Lenovo LOQ 15 RTX 4060 was the budget gaming laptop to beat in 2024. Forbes Vetted selected an LOQ 15 as its best gaming laptop under $1,000, emphasizing how unusual it was to find an RTX 4060 in this price class. [c001]
The RTX 4060 is the reason this particular LOQ configuration leads the list. It offers more graphics headroom than an RTX 4050 and is a better long-term buy when the price difference is only modest. Lenovo’s LOQ range included performance-oriented processors such as the Core i5-13450HX in at least one U.S. LOQ 15IRX9 configuration, but that does not mean every LOQ 15 has the same processor or graphics card. [c005]
When evaluating a listing, look for:
- An RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, not an RTX 4050 or integrated graphics;
- 16GB of RAM, ideally in an upgradeable configuration;
- A 144Hz-class display, with the panel’s brightness and color coverage checked separately;
- At least a 512GB SSD, preferably 1TB if the price is close; and
- The exact model number, GPU power limit, operating system, charger, warranty, and seller.
Some LOQ listings use a stronger 100%-sRGB display while others may use a less impressive budget panel. Do not transfer the specifications of one LOQ 15 model to another. The laptop family name is not enough.
For shoppers comparing current or archived listings, Lenovo LOQ 15 RTX 4060 is the configuration worth checking first—not simply any product described as “LOQ 15.”

2. Acer Nitro V 15 with RTX 4050: best cheaper option
The Acer Nitro V 15 RTX 4050 was the sensible entry point when an RTX 4060 laptop was materially more expensive. Independent 2024 coverage examined a representative configuration with Intel’s Core i5-13420H, an RTX 4050 Laptop GPU, 8GB of DDR5 memory, a 512GB SSD, and a 144Hz full-HD display. [c002][c007]

That hardware is aimed at 1080p gaming rather than demanding native 4K play. It can make a good first gaming laptop, particularly when the Nitro V is substantially cheaper than the LOQ or another RTX 4060 system.
However, Tom’s Hardware’s November 2024 review highlighted the central buying decision: RTX 4060 laptops could sometimes be found for roughly $100 more. [c006] If the price gap is around that size, the RTX 4060 option is usually the more attractive purchase. If the Nitro V is several hundred dollars cheaper, its RTX 4050 configuration makes more sense.
What to check before buying the Nitro V
- Memory: Prefer 16GB. An 8GB model may be usable, but it is a less comfortable starting point for modern games and multitasking.
- GPU wattage: RTX 4050 performance depends partly on the configured power limit, so two laptops with the same GPU name are not necessarily equivalent.
- Display: Confirm more than the 144Hz number. Brightness, color coverage, adaptive sync, and response behavior may vary.
- Upgrade access: Confirm that the exact model supports the memory or SSD upgrade you intend to make.
3. ASUS TUF Gaming A15: best alternative when discounted
The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 was a strong alternative for buyers who wanted a mainstream gaming design, a fast 1080p panel, and a high-powered RTX configuration. ASUS listed 2024 A15 configurations with RTX 4050 graphics rated up to 140W and 15.6-inch full-HD displays reaching 144Hz on applicable models. [c003]
Deal coverage also recorded an A15 configuration with a Ryzen 5 7535HS, RTX 4060, 8GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 512GB SSD at a representative $899 sale price. That was useful evidence of the A15’s value potential, but it was a historical deal rather than a permanent price or a promise of current availability. [c008]
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose the TUF A15 when the specific listing combines a full-power GPU, a good display, and a price close to—or below—the competing LOQ. An RTX 4060 TUF can easily outrank an RTX 4050 LOQ if the prices are similar.
Check the model number carefully. A15 machines sold under the same family name can differ in processor, GPU, RAM capacity, display, battery, and power limit. The advertised maximum of 140W applies to listed configurations, not universally to every TUF A15.

4. HP Victus 15: buy it only when the exact deal is right
The HP Victus 15 belongs on a 2024 budget shortlist because aggressive retailer discounts sometimes made it competitive with the LOQ, Nitro V, and TUF A15. It should not, however, be given a universal ranking based only on the Victus 15 name.
HP’s support documentation makes clear that Victus hardware varies by country, region, and custom configuration. [c004] One listing may have an RTX 4050, 16GB of RAM, and a 144Hz-class display; another may have less memory, a different panel, or a lower-tier GPU.
Recommended Free Tools
A strong Victus deal should generally include:
- At least an RTX 4050, with an RTX 4060 preferred when available;
- 16GB of RAM, or clearly documented and accessible upgrade support;
- A 144Hz-class display whose brightness and color coverage have been verified;
- A 512GB SSD or larger; and
- A price clearly below a comparable LOQ or TUF configuration.
Before ordering, verify the product number, GPU, memory type and capacity, display specifications, battery, SSD layout, upgrade options, included operating system, keyboard layout, seller, warranty, and return policy. Do not combine the specifications of two different Victus listings.
Why the GPU matters—but the GPU name is not enough
In this price range, the GPU should drive the ranking. An RTX 4060 is the preferred target when its premium over an RTX 4050 is small. An RTX 4050 remains a reasonable choice for lower-cost 1080p gaming, particularly when the laptop is meaningfully cheaper.
Power limits complicate the comparison. Laptop GPUs can run at different configured wattages, affecting sustained performance, cooling requirements, and sometimes chassis design. Record the GPU’s TGP or power range whenever the manufacturer publishes it instead of comparing only “RTX 4050” or “RTX 4060” labels. ASUS’s A15 specifications illustrate how a published power range matters, and Nitro V coverage demonstrates why same-name GPUs should not automatically be treated as identical. [c003][c007]
The practical rule is simple: compare the GPU, power limit, cooling design, price, and display together. A lower-powered RTX 4060 can still be the better buy than an RTX 4050, but the difference should be understood rather than hidden.

RAM: make 16GB the practical minimum
For a new budget gaming laptop, 16GB is the sensible target. An 8GB configuration may run games, but it leaves less room for the game, Windows, launchers, browser tabs, voice chat, and background applications to coexist comfortably.
If an 8GB laptop is an exceptional bargain, check its upgrade path before buying. Look for service documentation that identifies accessible SO-DIMM slots, supported memory capacity, and whether any memory is soldered. ASUS publishes SO-DIMM configurations for listed A15 models, but upgradeability is model-specific rather than guaranteed across the family. [c003]
Do not assume that a second slot exists just because another version of the same laptop has one. Verify the exact model number and service documentation.
Display: 144Hz is useful, but it is not a quality guarantee
A 144Hz refresh rate can make esports games and ordinary desktop motion look smoother, but it says little about brightness, color, contrast, response times, or viewing angles. Budget laptops may use a fast panel that is still dim or limited in color reproduction.
Compare these display details separately:
- Resolution—usually 1920×1080 in this category;
- Refresh rate, such as 144Hz;
- Brightness, if independently or officially verified;
- Color coverage, especially sRGB coverage;
- Adaptive-sync support; and
- Whether the exact model includes a MUX switch or Advanced Optimus.
ASUS publishes these details for some A15 configurations, while independent Nitro V coverage shows why a budget display should not be judged by refresh rate alone. [c003][c006][c007]
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Storage: 512GB works, but 1TB is a worthwhile upgrade
A 512GB SSD is a workable starting point, but it is not generous. Several large modern games, Windows updates, and creative applications can consume most of that capacity quickly. Treat 1TB as a meaningful convenience upgrade rather than an absolute requirement.

If you plan to add or replace an SSD, verify the exact laptop’s available M.2 slot, supported drive length, interface, and access procedure. Do not assume that every LOQ, Nitro V, TUF A15, or Victus 15 has the same internal layout. Warranty and service implications should also be checked before opening the machine.
Battery life and portability: set realistic expectations
These are plugged-in performance machines. Their high-refresh displays, discrete GPUs, cooling systems, and gaming-oriented processors make gaming performance, thermals, price, and screen quality more important buying criteria than all-day unplugged endurance.

How to choose between the four picks
- Start with the RTX 4060. Check the LOQ first, then compare discounted TUF A15 or Victus configurations.
- Set a price-gap rule. If an RTX 4060 laptop costs only about $100 more than an otherwise similar RTX 4050 model, the extra graphics headroom is usually worth considering. If the gap is substantially larger, the Nitro V may be the better value.
- Reject 8GB models unless the upgrade is clear. A cheaper laptop is not a bargain if a memory upgrade immediately erases the saving.
- Compare the screen separately. Do not let “144Hz” conceal a weak panel.
- Verify the entire SKU. CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD, display, charger, operating system, seller, warranty, and return policy all matter.
Buying checklist
- Record the exact manufacturer model number and retailer SKU.
- Confirm whether the GPU is an RTX 4050 or RTX 4060 Laptop GPU.
- Check the published GPU wattage or TGP where available.
- Prefer 16GB RAM, or verify a safe, supported upgrade path.
- Compare display resolution, refresh rate, brightness, and color coverage.
- Confirm whether the SSD is 512GB or 1TB and whether a second drive is supported.
- Check the included operating system, charger wattage, keyboard layout, and warranty.
- Review the seller’s return policy, especially for marketplace listings.
- Recheck price and stock immediately before purchase. A 2024 sale price is historical context, not a current guarantee.
Verdict
The best budget gaming laptop you could generally buy in the U.S. during 2024 was the Lenovo LOQ 15 with an RTX 4060 when its price approached $1,000. The Acer Nitro V 15 with an RTX 4050 was the better lower-cost entry point. The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 was a compelling alternative when its higher-powered RTX configuration was discounted, and the HP Victus 15 was worth buying only when a specific SKU clearly beat comparable alternatives.
The decisive lesson is to compare the full configuration, not the family name. Power limits, memory, displays, storage, regional availability, warranties, and retailer pricing can change the value equation completely.
