There is no single best flight stick for every Microsoft Flight Simulator player. Choose your platform first, then decide whether you want a HOTAS—with separate stick and throttle controls—or a standalone joystick that you can pair with other controls. For an integrated setup, consider the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS 5 MSFS Edition or the T.Flight HOTAS One MSFS Edition; for a standalone, PC-oriented stick, the VKB Gladiator NXT EVO is a notable option. Confirm the exact model’s compatibility before buying: support for one edition or platform does not establish support for every similarly named device.
How to choose a flight stick for Microsoft Flight Simulator
Start with the platform you play on. PC, Xbox, and PlayStation compatibility are not interchangeable, and a product listing for one edition does not establish that another edition works on your system. Microsoft’s peripheral information and the Xbox-specific product material below are useful checks, but verify the exact model and platform version with its manufacturer before purchase.
Next, choose a control layout. A HOTAS (“hands on throttle and stick”) puts a separate throttle and stick in one set. A standalone joystick provides the stick, while throttle and other controls can come from separate devices or simulator bindings. Microsoft describes joysticks as flexible across aircraft types; that is a category distinction, not evidence that one setup flies better.

What the platform compatibility information does—and does not—mean
Microsoft’s peripheral materials list named devices from several manufacturers. A listing supports the claim that a specific device is recognized in the simulator context; it does not mean every similarly named edition works on every console. In particular, do not assume that a PC version, Xbox version, or other product variant is interchangeable.

For the T.Flight HOTAS One MSFS Edition, Xbox Wire specifically states support for MSFS 2024 on Xbox Series X|S or PC. Check the product page and packaging for the exact edition before ordering. That statement should not be extended to other HOTAS One versions or consoles.
Check bindings after connecting the T.Flight HOTAS One
A device can be compatible and still need an axis assignment adjusted. Thrustmaster’s PC mapping material says the default rudder control for the T.Flight HOTAS One in MSFS 2024 may be assigned to the throttle instead of the stick’s twist axis, and provides correction guidance. Thrustmaster also provides an Xbox mapping PDF for axis corrections. Treat this as a model- and profile-specific setup check, not a general problem with flight sticks.

- Connect the T.Flight HOTAS One and open its MSFS 2024 control profile.
- Check which control is assigned to rudder. If it is mapped to the throttle rather than the twist axis you intend to use, follow Thrustmaster’s instructions for your platform: PC mapping guidance and Xbox mapping PDF.
- Test the rudder input in the simulator and correct the assignment if the control does not respond as expected.
Are rudder pedals required?
No requirement for pedals is established by these sources. For the T.Flight HOTAS 5 MSFS Edition, Thrustmaster describes twist-grip or progressive-lever rudder input and compatibility with separately sold TFRP pedals. Pedals are an optional way to add a separate rudder control to that setup, not a prerequisite stated for using the stick.
