Build the Karve with a hammer while a workbench is in range. The listed recipe is 30 Finewood, 10 Deer Hide, 20 Resin, and 80 Bronze Nails. Once afloat, interact with the rudder to sail; the wind affects your progress, and sailing directly against it is slow.
What the Karve requires
The ESO-UI Wiki’s community reference lists this recipe and these boat specifications; it is not an official developer source, and the figures are not tied to a verified game build.
| Requirement or specification | Listed value |
|---|---|
| Finewood | 30 |
| Deer Hide | 10 |
| Resin | 20 |
| Bronze Nails | 80 |
| Cargo capacity | 4 slots |
| Durability | 500 |
How to build the Karve
- Gather 30 Finewood, 10 Deer Hide, 20 Resin, and 80 Bronze Nails.
- Equip a hammer and choose a location in shallow water. Keep a workbench close enough for its building range to cover the placement.
- Use the hammer’s building menu to select the Karve and place it in the water.
The recipe is distinct from the raft recipe: the Karve is a separate boat, not an upgrade step performed on a raft.
How to sail the Karve
- Board the boat and interact with the rudder to take control.
- Check the wind indicator before setting your course. The community boat references describe travel with the wind as faster and travel directly into it as slow.
- When progress is poor, adjust your heading or sail state rather than assuming the boat is broken. No precise speed figure is established for a specific game version.
These rudder and wind instructions are described in the Valheim – EN boat reference and the Valheim Wiki boat overview.

Repairing the Karve
The ESO-UI Wiki Karve reference says hull damage can be repaired with a hammer, as with other build pieces. Repairing damage is separate from improving the boat’s specifications.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you upgrade the Karve?
The available references do not establish a way to upgrade the Karve itself to add cargo slots or improve its durability or sailing performance. They support building, sailing, and hammer repair, but not a capacity or performance upgrade. A third-party guide uses “upgrade from a raft to a karve” to describe moving to the Karve; that wording does not demonstrate an in-game upgrade mechanic.
