The best Sucker Punch games depend on what you want to play: inventive platforming, superpowered action, or a samurai adventure. This editorial ranking weighs each game’s gameplay identity, role in its series, accessibility as a starting point, and how clearly it represents a distinct era of the studio—not review scores or sales figures.

How this list is ranked

Sucker Punch’s current official catalog spans Rocket: Robot on Wheels, three Sly Cooper games, three inFAMOUS games, and the Ghost series. The order below is an editorial selection, not an objectively definitive ranking. It favors games that best express the studio’s changing strengths, while noting where a title fits in its series. Sucker Punch’s official site lists the catalog.

What are the best Sucker Punch games?

  1. Ghost of Tsushima

The game that established Sucker Punch’s modern open-world identity is the strongest all-around pick here: it centers on samurai combat and exploration, while carrying forward the studio’s interest in giving players room to move through a world at their own pace. It is the natural choice if you want the clearest bridge between the studio’s earlier action games and its newer Ghost direction.

  2. Ghost of Yōtei

Ghost of Yōtei is the newer standalone Ghost adventure, with Atsu as its protagonist and a setting in 1603 around Mount Yōtei in Ezo, present-day Hokkaido. It offers a fresh entry point for players who want a samurai adventure without beginning with Jin Sakai’s story. Sucker Punch describes the game as a standalone experience, not a direct narrative sequel to Ghost of Tsushima; Jin Sakai does not appear. Sony announced its worldwide PS5 launch for October 2, 2025. The official PlayStation page has current product information.

For the studio’s stated creative aim, Andrew Goldfarb, Sucker Punch’s Senior Communications Manager, wrote in a September 24, 2024 PlayStation Blog post that the team wanted to preserve the series’ core pillars: “playing as a wandering warrior in Feudal Japan, offering freedom to explore at your own pace, and highlighting the beauty of the world.” Goldfarb’s announcement also places Atsu’s journey in 1603.

  3. Sly 2: Band of Thieves

The Sly Cooper games show a very different side of the studio: stealthy platform-adventure built around a crew of thieves. Sly 2 is a strong pick for that style because its title and series identity put the emphasis on band-based capers rather than superhero or samurai action. It is best suited to players looking for a lighter, more playful adventure than the later open-world games.

  4. inFAMOUS 2

inFAMOUS 2 represents Sucker Punch’s superhero-action period. The series’ defining contrast—superpowered action framed by a hero’s choices—makes this a useful choice for players who prefer city traversal and powers over stealth-platforming or sword combat. It is a sequel, so players who want the full story should begin with inFAMOUS.

  5. Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus

The original Sly Cooper is the best starting point for the studio’s early stealth-platforming identity. Its place on the list reflects its importance as the first entry in the series, rather than a claim that it is the most expansive game here. Start with it if you want the series in order.

  6. inFAMOUS Second Son

Second Son is another route into the studio’s superhero-action style, and its standalone title distinguishes it from the numbered Cole-led games. It is a reasonable choice if you want to sample the inFAMOUS approach without starting with the original story, though the official material cited here does not establish current platform availability for it.

  7. Rocket: Robot on Wheels

Sucker Punch’s official catalog reaches back to Rocket: Robot on Wheels, an early platform-adventure distinct from the later franchises. It earns a place as a snapshot of the studio before Sly Cooper, inFAMOUS, and Ghost became its defining series.

  8. Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves

The third Sly Cooper is another crew-centered caper for players who already enjoy the series’ stealth-platforming premise. It belongs after the first two entries for readers exploring the franchise’s progression, rather than serving as the most straightforward first pick.

  9. inFAMOUS

The original inFAMOUS is the starting point for the superhero series’ story and a useful choice if you want to follow its mainline games from the beginning. Its lower placement reflects this list’s preference for later, more distinct expressions of the studio’s genres—not a sourced judgment about quality.

  10. Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves is not repeated; Sly 2 leads the series pick

Rather than treat every sequel as a separate top-tier recommendation, prioritize Sly 2 as the series’ representative choice and begin with the original if story order matters. Sucker Punch’s current catalog also lists Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves; its inclusion in the series’ history is clear, but the available evidence does not support a more precise comparative ranking among the three.

Which Sucker Punch game should I play first?

Choose by the kind of play you want rather than trying to follow one continuous studio storyline. Ghost of Yōtei is explicitly standalone, while the numbered Sly Cooper and inFAMOUS games are sequels within their own series. The evidence here does not establish that every entry in those series can be started without prior story knowledge.

  • For a new samurai adventure: start with Ghost of Yōtei if you want Atsu’s standalone story, or Ghost of Tsushima if you want the earlier Ghost adventure.
  • For stealth-platforming: begin with Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus to follow the series from its beginning; choose Sly 2 as the representative crew caper.
  • For superhero action: begin with inFAMOUS for the mainline story order, or consider inFAMOUS Second Son as a separate entry point.
  • For an early studio title: try Rocket: Robot on Wheels, while checking current availability for the platform you use.

What games did Sucker Punch make before Ghost of Tsushima?

Before the Ghost games, Sucker Punch’s catalog included Rocket: Robot on Wheels, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, inFAMOUS, inFAMOUS 2, and inFAMOUS Second Son. This is the studio’s current official catalog display, not a complete release-history ledger. It shows a clear shift from platform-adventure to superhero action before the open-world Ghost games.

Where can you play these games?

Platform support and current availability are not established for the entire catalog here, so check the relevant PlayStation store or game listing before buying. The confirmed current-generation detail is specific to Ghost of Yōtei: Sucker Punch says it launched exclusively on PS5, supports PS5 Pro, and was not developed for PS4. The studio’s FAQ gives those platform details.

Sony’s October 2, 2025 release announcement listed US launch MSRPs of $69.99 for Standard, $79.99 for Digital Deluxe, and $249.99 for Collector’s Edition. Those are dated announcement prices, not confirmed current prices. The announcement also listed a limited-edition themed DualSense controller and PS5 bundle as available at launch; stock and pricing can change. The controller is optional: its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are platform features, not a requirement to play. Sony’s release announcement contains the dated edition details.

Is Ghost of Yōtei a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima?

It is a follow-up in the Ghost series, but not a direct story sequel. The game takes place several centuries after Ghost of Tsushima, introduces Atsu in 1603 Ezo, and does not feature Jin Sakai. The shift in protagonist and setting makes it an independent narrative starting point. Sony’s launch announcement describes it as set 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima in 17th-century rural Japan; Sucker Punch’s earlier announcement gives the more specific 1603 setting.

Sucker Punch said in September 2025 that the cooperative Legends mode would not be available at launch. Sony’s October 2025 announcement said it was planned as free post-launch DLC in 2026; those were dated plans, and the mode’s current status should be checked in official game updates.
