There is no single best horse in Red Dead Redemption 2: the right pick depends on whether you value an early free mount, speed, durability, or handling. For story mode, the White Arabian is a strong free early option, the Missouri Fox Trotter favors speed, the Turkoman offers more health while keeping good pace, and Arabians stand out for elite handling. Red Dead Online has different unlocks and should be considered separately.

What the reported stats mean
Horse attributes are useful for comparing a particular coat, but don’t treat a stat line as a complete verdict. Speed and acceleration address pace; health and stamina are different measures, and handling describes how a horse responds. A fast horse with standard handling may suit a different player than an Arabian with elite handling.

Where and when to get the recommended horses
White Arabian: an early wild option
Look near Lake Isabella for the White Arabian. GameSpot describes it as difficult to tame, so plan for a wild-horse encounter rather than a quick stable purchase. Its earlier availability is the main reason it is a useful first recommendation; it does not have the health and stamina advantage of other Arabians.

Missouri Fox Trotter: stable options later in the story
The Amber Champagne Missouri Fox Trotter is listed at Scarlett Meadows in Chapter 4. GameSpot also places the Silver Dapple Pinto Missouri Fox Trotter at Blackwater in the Epilogue. These are story-progression locations; don’t mistake them for early-game options.

Vandal lists the Silver Turkoman at Tumbleweed during Epilogue 1. GameSpot lists the Black Arabian at the Saint Denis Stable during Chapter 4 and the Rose Grey Bay Arabian at the Blackwater Stable in the Epilogue. Stable availability depends on the specific coat and story progression, so confirm the horse’s name and location before riding out to buy one. The cited sources do not establish current prices.

Make the choice fit your play style
- Want a capable mount early without spending money? Try the White Arabian if you’re willing to find and tame a wild horse.
- Put speed first? The Missouri Fox Trotter is the clearest pick in this shortlist based on the guide-listed speed value.
- Prefer more health alongside respectable speed? Consider the Turkoman, keeping in mind that the cited Silver coat is an Epilogue 1 option.
- Care most about responsive handling? Choose an Arabian, while treating health and stamina as separate considerations.
Saddles, stirrups, and saddle bags can improve horse stats, according to RDR2.org’s horse guide. That guide covers story mode and online play, but the available information here does not establish a formula showing that upgrades make breed choice irrelevant.

The recommendations above concern story mode. Online play uses its own horse ranks, costs, and recommendations; don’t apply online rank or currency requirements to story progression. Rockstar’s Title Update 1.24 notes document Red Dead Online additions including Mustang and Missouri Fox Trotter coat variations and an Upland Saddle. Those notes establish what that update added, not whether a particular horse or item is currently available in every online context.
