The premise centers on the Bloodsworn, beings empowered by special blood who compete for “First Blood” as humanity approaches its twilight. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki says the game is not set in one fixed place or period. Its settings range from Gothic- or Victorian-inspired environments to late-modern locations. Although blood and vampires inform its romantic atmosphere, Miyazaki cautions against treating the Bloodsworn as conventional horror monsters.
Is The Duskbloods multiplayer?
Yes. The official descriptions identify it as an online PvPvE game: players battle other players as well as enemies controlled by the game. Nintendo lists online play for one to eight players, while FromSoftware describes up to eight players vying against one another and challenging enemies. Miyazaki also characterizes the format as online multiplayer that includes both player-versus-player and player-versus-environment combat. The official descriptions do not establish it as a single-player-only game, an extraction game, or a battle royale.

In a Japanese-language interview published April 4, 2025, Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice interview with Miyazaki identifies him as the game’s director. He describes the format as PvPvE. The English translation here is editorial: “It is based on online multiplayer and is a type of game that includes both battles between players and battles between players and enemies.”
Which system is it on, and what do you need to play online?
Nintendo lists Nintendo Switch 2 as the game’s exclusive system. Its US listing says the game supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. To use online features, players need internet access, a Nintendo Account, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership, which is sold separately.

Nintendo Australia listed the Global Network Test for August 21–24, 2026. That event has passed, and the official network-test application site says the application period is closed. The official site also posted test-related notices on August 20 and 21, 2026.
