The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is no longer an upcoming game: Bethesda released it on April 22, 2025. The leak-era report behind the old “launch window” headline anticipated a remaster, but Bethesda’s official materials confirm only the broad gameplay changes—not every specific detail attributed to the leak.
When did Oblivion Remastered come out?
Bethesda announced the game as available on April 22, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Xbox’s launch coverage also identified PC access through Steam and the Xbox app, cloud availability, day-one Game Pass access, and Xbox Play Anywhere. Bethesda’s launch announcement and Xbox Wire’s launch article establish the original release date and day-one lineup.
Bethesda’s current game page lists Xbox, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Switch 2 was not part of the launch-day lineup; Bethesda’s page includes Switch 2 patch updates from September 2026, so the current list should not be mistaken for the original release platforms. Check regional storefronts for current availability.
Which leaked combat details were confirmed?
Bethesda’s April 22, 2025 extended look confirms that combat animations were recreated, with more flourish and clearer separation between upper- and lower-body movement. It also describes added sound and visual effects and hit reactions.

Bethesda additionally confirms that sprinting was added, third-person play received a crosshair and other usability updates, and the leveling system was redesigned with inspiration from both Oblivion and Skyrim. Those statements establish the broad changes; the official articles reviewed do not verify every fine-grained combat detail attributed to the earlier leak.
How does the remaster change the original game?
The game combines a modern visual overhaul with the original game’s underlying systems. Bethesda describes Unreal Engine 5 as the basis for the remaster’s visuals, while the original Oblivion game core continues to power gameplay and world logic. Xbox describes the original Creation Engine game as remaining at the core.

Xbox Wire’s launch summary also lists updated animations, new textures and lighting, and changes to the HUD, menus, map, accessibility features, autosaves, and first- and third-person cameras. Xbox describes the game as running at 4K and 60 frames per second; that is the outlet’s product description, not an independently verified performance test.
For the distinction between the remaster’s presentation and its underlying design, Virtuos Executive Producer Alex Murphy put it this way: “Oblivion is the heart and soul of the Remaster.”

What the old leak headline gets right—and what it does not
The report belongs to the period before Bethesda’s official announcement. Its broad premise—a remastered Oblivion with changes to combat and other gameplay systems—was borne out by the released game and Bethesda’s feature descriptions. Its reference to a future launch window is obsolete: the game has been available since April 22, 2025.
The official sources establish the release, platforms, editions, and broad gameplay changes described above. They do not identify the leak’s source or independently confirm every individual detail attributed to it. The safest way to read the old report is as a leak-era account whose headline has been overtaken by the release, not as an authoritative feature list.
