Predictions published just before the reveal pointed in conflicting directions: an AAA game such as Detroit: Become Human, an indie or less prominent AA release, or a repeat giveaway. None was an official hint, and none matched the actual reveal.
What was the fifth Epic mystery game?
Epic revealed Sorry We’re Closed as the fifth game in its 2025 holiday mystery giveaway on December 21, 2025. It was available to claim for a limited window. The reveal coverage confirms the title; the pre-reveal prediction article had not identified it.

The giveaway took place during Epic’s 2025 Holiday Sale, which ran from December 11, 2025, through January 8, 2026. Epic’s sale guide also noted that Hogwarts Legacy was free through December 18, but it did not name the fifth mystery game: Epic’s 2025 Holiday Sale guide.

A Notebookcheck article published on December 21, as the fourth mystery giveaway was nearing its end, described speculation rather than a leak or confirmation. It said there were no obvious storefront hints and laid out three broad possibilities:
#1 Best Overall
- Use Michelle's third eye to see the world bruises and reveal your secrets
- Sorry We're Closed is a work that combines nostalgic survival horror with a new perspective of combat
- Enjoy the atmospheric environment, fixed camera angle, and the thrill of the first person shooting game in arcade style
- Michelle time is separated from a dangerous interaction with the local people in her city where she lives, where everyone fights their inner demons
- Lead them through Michelle. Multiple endings are available through diverse cast and RPG style conversations
- An AAA release: Detroit: Become Human was named as a possible high-profile pick.
- An indie or less prominent AA game: The report also considered a smaller or less prominent release, without establishing a particular title.
- A repeat giveaway: Another theory held that Epic might bring back a previously offered game, based on fifth-game giveaways in earlier years.
The report said a purported leaked list had proved fake. It also anticipated a reveal at 16:00 UTC that day. These were details and expectations reported before the reveal, not evidence of Epic’s plans. Read the contemporaneous account at Notebookcheck’s prediction report.
Were the Detroit: Become Human predictions right?
No. The fifth game was Sorry We’re Closed, not Detroit: Become Human. The indie/less prominent AA and repeat theories also did not describe the game that Epic revealed. The prediction story captured uncertainty before the announcement; it did not establish a credible leak or a clue that singled out the eventual title.

Can Epic’s free-game schedule confirm a holiday mystery title?
No. Epic Games Player Support says, “Player Support doesn’t have advance information about upcoming free games.” Its general guidance describes the ordinary weekly offer as launching Thursday at 8 AM PT, remaining claimable for seven days, and becoming permanently yours once claimed. That weekly schedule should not be treated as the cadence for every daily holiday mystery giveaway. See Epic Games Store free-game support guidance.
