Nintendo’s official Zelda game release for 2026 is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, remade for Nintendo Switch 2 and scheduled for November 5. It is a return of the 1998 adventure—not confirmation of a new, original mainline Zelda game. The announced overhaul is substantial enough to make this more than a simple re-release: Nintendo says it includes updated visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, and revised camera and movement controls.
What Nintendo announced for 2026
Nintendo showed the first gameplay with series producer Eiji Aonuma and announced Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Nintendo of America promoted it as “The legend reborn for a new generation—available 11/5!” That is Nintendo’s description of this return, not an announcement of a different, previously unannounced Zelda adventure. Nintendo of America’s anniversary Direct page and Nintendo of Canada’s announcement give the release details.
What changes in the Switch 2 version
Nintendo describes this as a remake with a new presentation and several gameplay-facing updates. The features below are publisher-announced; they have not been independently tested here.
- Overhauled visuals and improved presentation: Nintendo says the game has been remade with updated visuals and improved presentation.
- Voiced scenes and more dialogue: Cutscenes are fully voiced, and character dialogue has been expanded.
- Orchestral soundtrack: The music is described as symphonic and orchestral.
- Reworked camera and movement controls: These are among the announced changes to how the game is controlled.
- Improved loading: Nintendo lists loading improvements alongside the presentation updates.
- Day/night cycle: The cycle continues as part of the game’s features.
- Melodies and progress: Nintendo mentions “Threads of Time” story progress and says Link can play learned melodies after players sing or hum them.
The announcement establishes the scope of the changes, but it does not answer practical questions such as how the new controls compare in play or how the remake handles every familiar mechanic. Those are details to judge from the finished game, not assume from the feature list.

Release date, platform, and physical packaging
The game is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Nintendo also says the first print run of the physical game will have special packaging with textured foil cover art, available while supplies last. The announcement does not state a price or guarantee that later physical copies will retain that packaging. Nintendo’s announcement is the source for both the release and first-run packaging details.
How the other anniversary announcements fit
Nintendo’s 40th anniversary program includes products and events beyond the game. Their dates matter: the anniversary system and accessories arrive before the remake, while several collectibles and concerts are announced for 2027. None is described as required to play the game.

| Hasbro Electronic Master Sword | Spring 2027. Nintendo describes it as 27 inches long. |

Nintendo also announced a multi-year Zelda licensing partnership with Hasbro beginning in 2027. Hasbro said its first reveal would include three six-inch figures at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026. That establishes the partnership and planned reveal, not current store availability. Hasbro’s announcement describes the agreement.
The film is a separate Zelda project
The live-action film, officially titled The Legend of Zelda, is planned for worldwide theatrical release on April 30, 2027—not in 2026 and not as part of the game launch. Nintendo says it draws on stories, ideas, and concepts developed across 40 years of games. Its announcement names Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad as producers, Wes Ball as director, and Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Zelda and Link. Nintendo’s film release announcement provides the date and credits.

What this return does—and does not—confirm
The confirmed 2026 return is a Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time, with a November 5 date and a list of announced presentation and gameplay changes. The broader anniversary brings hardware, collectibles, a concert series, and a separate film, each on its own schedule. These announcements do not confirm another original Zelda game for 2026. Nintendo’s company-wide figures—more than 6.1 billion video games and over 870 million hardware units globally—are not Zelda-specific sales or evidence of demand for this remake.
