The title is confirmed, but its story meaning has not been explained. The announcement does not establish whether the film will directly adapt material traditionally associated with the Egyptian Book of the Dead or use the phrase as a broader adventure title. Any connection to a specific ancient text, villain or artifact remains speculation until Universal releases plot information.

What is the plot?
The story is being kept secret. Universal has not announced a synopsis, setting, villain, supernatural threat or explanation of how the new adventure connects its title to the Egyptian Book of the Dead.

Because Rick and Evelyn are returning, the film is clearly positioned within the Fraser-led series rather than as an unrelated remake. That does not, by itself, confirm which supporting characters, historical period or mythology the screenplay will use. Claims about a direct adaptation of the ancient funerary text, a return of a particular antagonist or a specific time jump should be treated as unverified until official material says otherwise.

- No production budget has been disclosed.

How it fits into the franchise
The Mummy: Book of the Dead is the fourth Fraser-led theatrical entry. The preceding films established Rick O’Connell and Evelyn as the series’ core pairing while moving from an ancient Egyptian curse in 1999 to a larger mythological conflict in 2001 and a different setting in 2008. The new film’s confirmed cast places it in that same broad continuity, but its exact timeline and relationship to the previous endings remain undisclosed.
For viewers preparing for the sequel, the essential starting point is the 1999 The Mummy, followed by The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Watching order does not reveal any additional confirmed information about the new plot.
