The Omen Max 45L Is the Star of HP’s Latest PC Gaming Update—But Its Price Is the Real Story

HP’s March 24, 2026 gaming announcement puts the HyperX OMEN MAX 45L at the center of its latest PC refresh. The flagship desktop adds an Intel configuration, supports up to a GeForce RTX 5090 and 128GB of DDR5 memory, and carries HP’s second-generation Cryo Chamber cooling system. It is also joined by the OMEN 35L, expanded OMEN AI game support, and new HeyGen and Voicemod integrations in OMEN Gaming Hub.

The important qualification is that this is a refresh and expansion—not the Max 45L’s original debut. HP first announced the desktop on August 14, 2025, with AMD Ryzen processors and RTX 5090 options. The 2026 update makes the HyperX-branded Intel model the headline configuration, while keeping the large chassis, cooling system, and upgradeability pitch that defined the original.

The short version

The OMEN MAX 45L is HP’s flagship gaming desktop and the most ambitious part of its 2026 gaming update. HP says the new Intel-powered version is its most powerful Intel gaming desktop to date, with configurations reaching an Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, GeForce RTX 5090 graphics, 128GB of DDR5 memory, and support for a 360mm liquid cooler.

That makes it a serious option for 4K and ultrawide gaming, high-end content creation, and buyers who want a powerful prebuilt without giving up all access to standard components. It is not automatically good value, however. Reported configurations range from roughly $2,535 to $6,500, and those systems are not remotely equivalent. The right buying decision depends on the exact CPU, GPU, memory, storage, power supply, warranty, and price of the SKU in front of you.

What HP announced in 2026

The gaming portion of HP Imagine 2026 is broader than a single desktop launch. It includes:

  • HyperX OMEN MAX 45L: the flagship desktop, with a new Intel-focused configuration and support for RTX 5090 graphics and up to 128GB of DDR5 memory.
  • HyperX OMEN 35L: a smaller, lower-positioned desktop for buyers who do not need the Max 45L’s largest chassis or highest-end configurations.
  • Expanded OMEN AI support: HP lists Minecraft, Roblox, and Marvel Rivals among the supported games.
  • New OMEN Gaming Hub integrations: HeyGen for AI avatar videos, translation, and highlight creation, plus Voicemod for voice and communication customization.

HP is presenting these products and services as one connected gaming ecosystem. The Max 45L is still the hardware centerpiece because it carries the highest performance ceiling, but the software and HyperX branding are a significant part of the update.

2025 launch versus 2026 refresh

It is easy to mistake the 2026 announcement for a completely new desktop. The OMEN MAX 45L was originally announced on August 14, 2025, with AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and GeForce RTX 5090 options. That launch introduced the large 45-liter design, OMEN Cryo Chamber, revised airflow system, modular 1,200W power supply, and OMEN Gaming Hub monitoring and tuning.

The 2026 changes are primarily an expansion of the platform:

  • Comes with 4x pre-installed PWM-controlled 120mm ARGB fans, ensuring adaptable airflow and vibrant lighting with daisy-chain connectivity for easy setup.
  • Integrated 26-LED ARGB strip offers full spectrum color control and synchronization with motherboard software, enhancing both visibility and aesthetics.
  • Supports ATX, Micro-ATX, Mini-ITX, and back-connect ATX or Micro-ATX motherboards for cleaner routing and flexible builds
  • Each side panel features a tool-less mounting mechanism for easy and fast access to internal components, streamlining your build process.
  • Fits high-end hardware with support for GPUs up to 420mm, CPU coolers up to 178mm, and a top radiator up to 360mm
  • A new HyperX-branded Intel configuration centered on the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus.
  • A highlighted RTX 5080 configuration, with the wider product family reaching RTX 5090 graphics.
  • Support for up to 128GB of DDR5 memory.
  • Expanded OMEN AI game support and new creator and communication integrations.
  • HP’s claim of up to a 10% performance improvement over the previous generation in an internal Cinebench 2024 comparison.

That 10% figure is an HP result using specified prebuilt samples, not an independent gaming benchmark. It should not be treated as a universal improvement across every Max 45L configuration.

What is inside the OMEN MAX 45L?

“Up to” specifications describe the platform’s ceiling, not what every model includes. HP has announced or sold substantially different versions of the desktop.

Component What has been announced or reported Important qualification
CPU Up to Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus in the 2026 announcement; earlier models included Ryzen 7 9700X, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, and other Ryzen options. Check the exact SKU. AMD and Intel systems should not be treated as one configuration.
GPU Configurations range from Radeon RX 9070 XT and GeForce RTX 5070-class systems to RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 models. RTX 5090 is a maximum configuration, not a standard inclusion.
Memory Up to 128GB DDR5; Tom’s Hardware reviewed a 64GB DDR5-6000 system. Capacity and speed vary by SKU.
Storage Tom’s review unit used two 2TB SSDs. Lower-priced systems may ship with substantially less storage.
Cooling Second-generation Cryo Chamber, revised airflow, and support for a 360mm liquid cooler. Cooling hardware depends on the selected configuration.
Power supply The 2025 launch introduced a modular 1,200W power supply. Verify the PSU listed for the specific model before upgrading.
Operating system Tom’s review unit shipped with Windows 11 Pro. Operating-system editions can vary.

HP’s official product family is listed on its OMEN MAX 45L buying page. HP’s SKU-level specification pages are also available for the GT23-0000 series, although regional availability and individual configurations can differ.

How fast is it?

The strongest independent evidence comes from Tom’s Hardware’s review of a high-end configuration with a Ryzen 9 9900X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB of DDR5-6000 memory, two 2TB SSDs, a 1,200W power supply, and Windows 11 Pro.

In that review configuration, Tom’s Hardware reported:

  • Super Cooling System, supports 360mm radiators on top. Air cooling supports up to 170cm in height.
  • ATX/M-ATX/ITX motherboards, supports GPUs up to 400mm (15.75 in), accommodates PSUs up to 200mm (7.87 in), supports 1x HDD and 3x SSDs. (Dimensions: 430*123*490mm / 16.9“*8.38”*19.2"in)
  • Battlefield 6: approximately 160–180 frames per second at 5120×1440 using Overkill settings and DLSS 4.5.
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider: 329 fps at 1080p and 170 fps at 4K.
  • Cyberpunk 2077: 146 fps at 1080p and 50 fps at 4K with Ultra ray tracing.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2: 217 fps at 1080p and 124 fps at 4K.
  • Metro Exodus: a 157.68 fps average after 15 stress-test loops.

These results demonstrate what an RTX 5090-equipped Max 45L can do; they do not represent every model sold under the same name. A system with an RTX 5070, RX 9070 XT, or a different processor will deliver a different result. The full test methodology is in Tom’s Hardware’s OMEN MAX 45L review.

Cryo Chamber cooling: meaningful feature, carefully worded claim

The OMEN Cryo Chamber is a dedicated cooling section designed to draw outside air directly toward the CPU. It separates the processor cooling path from the rest of the case and works with the chassis’s broader airflow design.

HP claimed that the system reduced full-load CPU temperatures by 7.5°C in its internal testing and improved GPU cooling by up to 2°C with the redesigned airflow. Those are manufacturer claims under HP’s stated test conditions, not guarantees for every processor, graphics card, room temperature, or fan profile.

Tom’s Hardware found its tested Max 45L both powerful and relatively quiet under load. Its review unit recorded CPU and GPU temperatures of approximately 49.8°C and 48.2°C in the publication’s stress test, with fan noise described as a low hum. That result applies to the reviewed configuration and test procedure rather than every version of the desktop.

Is it really upgradeable?

Compared with many proprietary gaming prebuilts, the Max 45L makes a credible upgradeability argument. Tom’s Hardware reported tool-less side-panel access, four DIMM slots, two M.2 storage slots, a standard ATX motherboard, space for large graphics cards, and a modular power supply.

CORSAIR 4000D RS ARGB Frame Customizable Mid-Tower PC Case – Black | 3x Pre-Installed Fans, High Airflow, Fully Modular, Easy InfiniRail Fan Mounting, GPU Anti-Sag, Reverse Motherboard Support
  • FRAME Modular Case System - The revolutionary FRAME system gives new meaning to the word customization. Want to upgrade the motherboard tray to billet aluminum? Want to swap out your front I/O panel for more USB ports? Now you can. A case that can change and grow with your needs (or just your mood). The options are nearly limitless
  • 3x CORSAIR RS ARGB PWM Fans - High-performance fans pre-installed in the front of case. Support daisy-chainable 4-pin PWM connections and Zero RPM mode for near-silent operation at low loads. Each Fan has eight LEDs and easily controllable with your motherboard’s +5V ARGB connector
  • CORSAIR InfiniRail Fan Mounting System - This steel multi-point mounting system offers unmatched flexibility in front and roof fan configuration. Simply slide the rail to mount fans up to 200mm (140mm in the roof) wherever you like, ensuring targeted airflow
  • Clean Lines or Turbo Cooled - The internal side panel near the motherboard tray can be used as a cable cover for clean cable management, or you can remove it and mount fans to the side for increased cooling potential
  • 3D Y-Pattern Airflow Panel - Optimized for high airflow and minimal restriction, the steel front panel is perforated in three dimensions with a Y-pattern that provides a low-obstruction path for cool air

That does not make it as flexible as a carefully selected DIY build. Tom’s Hardware found access to the second M.2 slot tedious, and the Gen 4 SSD location in the tested system lacked a heatsink. The exact motherboard, storage layout, power supply, cooler, and warranty terms must also be checked by SKU and region.

The practical distinction is:

  • Physical upgradeability: relatively strong for a prebuilt.
  • Storage expansion: possible, but not every slot is equally convenient to reach or cool.
  • Component replacement: more approachable than on a sealed proprietary system, but still dependent on the specific HP configuration.
  • Long-term value: strongest when the initial configuration already includes the performance and storage you need.

HP’s “modular” language from the 2025 launch particularly concerned the 1,200W power supply and the broader component design. It should not be read as a promise that every part is universally interchangeable.

What OMEN Gaming Hub and OMEN AI add

OMEN Gaming Hub acts as the software control center for performance profiles, system vitals, fan and lighting controls, power-supply monitoring, and supported HyperX peripherals.

HP says OMEN AI can tune operating-system, hardware, and in-game settings with one click. It lists Minecraft, Roblox, and Marvel Rivals as supported games and claims up to a 50% FPS improvement in Minecraft testing. That is HP’s own test claim, not an independent result and not a prediction for every game or PC.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 2026 update also adds:

  • HeyGen: tools for AI avatar videos, translation, and highlight-clip creation.
  • Voicemod: voice and communication customization.

These features may be useful to streamers, creators, and multiplayer players, but they are secondary reasons to choose the Max 45L. HP states that OMEN AI and OMEN Gaming Hub can also be available for download on Windows and may support other HP consumer PCs, so they are not necessarily exclusive Max 45L advantages.

There is also a software trade-off. Tom’s Hardware noted that the reviewed system included several HP utilities, including Support Assistant, Hardware Diagnostics, and HP Smart. The tools are useful, but buyers who prefer a lean Windows installation may find the software ecosystem less streamlined than expected.

How much does it cost?

There is no single meaningful Max 45L price because the product family spans very different hardware tiers. Tom’s Hardware reported the following U.S. prices in its March 27, 2026 review:

  • $2,544.99 for a Ryzen 7 9700X, Radeon RX 9070 XT, 32GB memory, and 1TB storage configuration.
  • $2,534.99 for a comparable GeForce RTX 5070 configuration.
  • $3,254.99 for a Ryzen 7 9800X3D configuration.
  • $6,499.99 for the reviewed Ryzen 9 9900X3D and RTX 5090 system with 64GB memory and two 2TB SSDs.

These are reported configuration prices, not a universal current MSRP. HP said pricing for the refreshed 2026 models would be provided closer to availability and expected the refreshed Max 45L to reach HP.com in May. Prices, promotions, inventory, and regional SKUs can change quickly; check the live HP listing before buying.

The premium is easiest to justify when you specifically need RTX 5090-class performance, large memory capacity, multiple SSDs, a powerful CPU, and the convenience of a prebuilt. It is much harder to justify for 1080p gaming, esports, or buyers who could build a comparable system themselves.

Who should buy the OMEN MAX 45L?

It makes sense for:

  • Gamers targeting 4K or ultrawide resolutions.
  • Buyers who want an RTX 5090-class prebuilt without assembling a system.
  • Creators who need substantial CPU, GPU, memory, and storage capacity.
  • Users who value quieter operation and a large, airflow-focused chassis.
  • Buyers who want better upgrade access than many proprietary prebuilts provide.

Look elsewhere if:

  • You mainly play esports or other games at 1080p.
  • Price-to-performance matters more than maximum performance.
  • You are comfortable selecting and building your own components.
  • You do not need a flagship graphics card.
  • You need a compact or discreet desktop.
  • You are unwilling to verify the exact motherboard, PSU, storage, cooling, and warranty terms.

The HyperX OMEN 35L is the more natural HP alternative for buyers who want the OMEN ecosystem in a smaller or more balanced system. HP had not published a final price for it in the cited announcement, so its value should be judged from the live regional listing rather than an assumed discount.

Verdict

The OMEN MAX 45L deserves its starring role in HP’s latest PC gaming update. It combines HP’s highest-end desktop hardware, a distinctive cooling design, a large chassis, standard-style upgrade paths, and the newest OMEN software features. The 2026 refresh also broadens the line with Intel hardware and a stronger HyperX identity.

But the Max 45L is not automatically the best gaming PC for everyone. The $2,500-class configurations and $6,500-class RTX 5090 system are different buying propositions, and HP’s performance, temperature, and AI improvement claims need to remain clearly attributed. Choose it when you need flagship performance and prebuilt convenience; otherwise, compare the exact SKU with the OMEN 35L, a less expensive prebuilt, or a custom build before paying the premium.
