The original Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis are available as DRM-free PC releases on GOG. They are the classic games—not the later remakes—with compatibility and quality-of-life updates for modern systems. You can install the first game from an offline installer and play without GOG Galaxy.
Which Resident Evil games are on GOG?
Capcom and GOG announced the return of the original PC trilogy on June 26, 2024. The lineup is the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. These are distinct from the later remakes: GOG describes its releases as the original games with their content intact, updated for compatibility and convenience rather than rebuilt as remakes. GOG’s announcement said the first game was available immediately, with the other two available to wishlist or pre-purchase as part of a bundle at announcement.

The announcement credited Capcom as the original creator and partner. GOG’s current Resident Evil listing identifies that release as maintained in the GOG Preservation Program and co-developed by GOG.
Are the GOG releases DRM-free, and do they need Galaxy?
GOG says the first game is DRM-free and offers an offline installer. GOG Galaxy is optional; the listing says you do not need an internet connection to play after installation. Some bonus content may require an internet connection to download. These details are stated on the first game’s product listing.
