The Riftbreaker is a solo or co-op survival base-building game built around two connected roles: piloting a combat mech to explore and fight, and establishing defenses and infrastructure to keep a base alive. It is a better fit for players who want both active combat and strategic upkeep than for someone seeking only a conventional action RPG or a hands-off city builder.
Is The Riftbreaker worth it?
That depends on whether the blend is the appeal. Steam describes The Riftbreaker as a base-building survival game with Action-RPG elements, playable solo or cooperatively with up to four players. Its central contrast is between direct control of a mech during exploration and combat, and the planning required to build and defend a base. Players who enjoy switching between those kinds of decisions have a clearer reason to consider it than players looking for just one of them.

Metacritic’s PC critic-review page provides qualitative review context, but the available information does not establish a dependable aggregate critic score to quote. Epic Games Store says each mode and mission was balanced for single-player or multiplayer enjoyment; that is the store’s claim, not independent evidence that every player will find the modes equally satisfying.
What kind of game is it?
Mech combat and exploration
The action-RPG element means the player is not only arranging structures from a distance: the mech is a direct combat and exploration component. That may appeal to action-game players who want to take an active role in threats rather than treat defense as a purely abstract system.
Rank #2
Base building and defense
The survival and base-building side asks players to think about construction and defense as well as combat. Those systems are not separate genre labels pasted onto the same game: the appeal lies in alternating between operating the mech and managing a base. The trade-off is that players who dislike infrastructure planning or repeated defensive attention may find the strategy layer a drag, while base-building fans who want a calmer, less combat-focused pace may find the mech action intrusive.

Steam lists online and LAN co-op for up to four players, as well as single-player. Epic Games Store says missions and modes were balanced for solo or multiplayer play, though individual enjoyment will still depend on whether a player prefers coordinating with others or managing the full experience alone.
