The Rogue Prince of Persia has generally favorable critic reviews. Metacritic’s PC page shows an 80 Metascore from 32 reviews—28 positive, four mixed and none negative—when accessed on October 8, 2026. Critics most often praise its fluid parkour and the way movement feeds into combat; the main reservation is whether its enemies, settings and builds offer enough variety across repeated runs.

What is the critic-review consensus?

The PC review sample leans positive, but its score is only one part of the picture. Metacritic’s PC critic page listed an 80 Metascore from 32 reviews on October 8, 2026: 28 positive, four mixed and zero negative. Those figures describe the PC listing and the reviews shown there, not every platform or every player’s experience. Aggregate scores and review counts can change.

The pattern behind the score is more useful to a prospective player: critics tend to admire how smoothly traversal and fighting connect, while some find the repeated runs short on variation. That makes the game’s appeal depend in part on whether movement-focused action is enough to carry a roguelite for you.

What do critics like about the game?

Parkour that carries into combat

Movement is the most consistent strength in the reviews. PC Gamer describes wall-running, chained jumps, dashes and climbs as part of a continuous flow, rather than separate platforming tasks between fights. The same momentum can shape encounters: a dash-vault can take the Prince over an enemy, a flip can put him behind one, and a kick can send a foe into a hazard. Weapons also have their own special attacks.

PC Gamer’s Jody Macgregor summed up that appeal in the review’s verdict: “Smooth action blends seamlessly into smooth traversal, making this the better modern 2D Prince of Persia.” That is Macgregor’s critical assessment, not a claim by the developer or publisher.

A distinctive look and sound

GamesRadar+ highlights the clean, hand-drawn, comic-inspired presentation. PC Gamer also singles out a soundtrack that blends Middle Eastern folk instrumentation with electronic music. These audiovisual choices give the action a recognizable identity alongside its movement-focused design.

What are the main criticisms?

Runs may not feel different enough

Variety is the recurring concern. Metacritic’s review listings include criticism of limited variety and repetition. PC Gamer says some combinations of weapons and medallions do not develop into interesting builds, so one run may not feel meaningfully distinct from another.

Repetition can emerge over time

GamesRadar+ finds enjoyable moments and competent movement, but argues that the game brings little novelty to a crowded roguelite field. Its reviewer reports repetition emerging over roughly 20 to 30 hours in that outlet’s completion context. Treat that as one reviewer’s estimate, not a universal playtime benchmark.

The four mixed PC reviews are a reminder that the positive aggregate does not mean every critic was fully convinced. The reservations focus less on the central movement idea than on how long the surrounding content and run-to-run variation sustain it.

What is The Rogue Prince of Persia, and where is it listed?

Metacritic describes the game as an action roguelite and 2D platformer developed by Evil Empire and published by Ubisoft. Its premise centers on repeated attempts to save Persia from a Hun invasion through platforming and acrobatic combat. Metacritic lists an initial release date of August 20, 2025, and platforms PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Release timing and availability can differ by region or storefront, so check the listing for your platform.

Is it worth playing?

Critics’ reviews point toward a good fit if your priority is responsive parkour that flows directly into acrobatic combat. If you mainly want a roguelite where successive runs produce sharply different builds and encounters, the reported variety concerns are worth weighing before you buy. The PC Metascore offers a useful snapshot of critic reception, but the review arguments explain the tradeoff more clearly than the number alone.
