Spoilers for all four endings and optional artifact puzzles. The Room Three has four endings: Imprisoned, Escaped, Released, and Lost. Each is reached by solving the final room’s table puzzle, then choosing whether and how to use two optional artifacts. You can return to the final area after your first completion using Change your fate, so you do not need to replay the whole game for every ending.
How the ending choices work
In The Room Three, you search for the Null on a remote island while the Craftsman leads you through trials in a mysterious mansion. The mansion’s persistent hub introduces puzzles between chapters, and Fireproof Games says those hub puzzles influence your fate and the alternate ending. Its official description explains that broader connection, but does not list the individual route instructions. Fireproof Games’ official game page
The detailed steps below come from Kuro’s Steam Community walkthrough, updated July 11, 2023; they are community guidance rather than an official Fireproof route guide. The walkthrough describes two optional Mysterious Artifacts—a star-shaped one and an octagonal one—that unlock the alternate routes. After completing the game once, select Change your fate on the main menu to return to the central chamber near the final room. Your inventory is saved from before the final puzzle room, allowing you to collect the artifacts and try different outcomes. Kuro’s Steam Community walkthrough
How the four endings differ
| Ending | Artifacts used | Final-room route |
|---|---|---|
| Imprisoned | Neither | Leave both artifacts off the pillars, exit through the train-cart doorway, and read the letter on the train table. |
| Escaped | Octagonal artifact | Place it on the left pillar when facing the gravestone. Solve the portal mini-puzzle, return and press the button on the artifact, then use the green-lit doorway. |
| Released | Star-shaped artifact | Place it on the right pillar when facing the gravestone. Solve the portal mini-puzzle, return and press the button on the artifact, then use the blue-lit doorway. |
| Lost | Both artifacts | Place both on their pillars and solve both mini-puzzles. Turn on both lights, then interact with the window above the star artifact’s light using the screwdriver. Exit through the changed doorway. |
These route actions are from the community walkthrough; the official game page confirms that puzzles affect alternate endings but does not independently enumerate the steps. Steam Community walkthrough · Fireproof Games

Do you have to replay the whole game?
No, according to the walkthrough. Once you have completed the game, choose Change your fate from the main menu to return to the central chamber near the final room. The walkthrough says your inventory is preserved from before the final puzzle room, so you can revisit the ending routes without replaying the entire story. You may still need to solve optional puzzles to obtain the artifacts required for Escaped, Released, or Lost. Kuro’s Steam Community walkthrough

Which ending is the true ending?
The available official description establishes that hub puzzles influence the player’s fate and alternate ending, but it does not identify any outcome as true, best, or canon. The community walkthrough lists the four routes and their required actions without ranking their narrative status. Choose based on which outcomes you want to see rather than treating one as authoritatively canonical. Fireproof Games · Steam Community walkthrough
