No. The official online game became inaccessible when EA shut down its servers on January 24, 2025, as reported by The Independent. When did Tapped Out shut down?

What did the farewell include?
The final update, “Taps,” began on September 26, 2024. A community-maintained Wikisimpsons archive of the update records returning store content and farewell questlines, with items returning in waves and in-game donut rewards. These were features of the game’s final period, not options available after the shutdown.

In its farewell statement, EA said the game had delivered 308 updates, 831 characters, and 1,463 questlines, including the farewell. Those are figures from EA’s statement, reproduced in The Independent’s coverage, rather than independently audited totals. The game let players build their own versions of Springfield, and EA thanked players for doing so. Some players described the loss of their towns and daily routines as personal; those accounts are individual recollections, not a representative survey.

EA did not give a specific reason for ending Tapped Out in the sunset announcement. Its statement called the decision to end the twelve-year journey “an emotional one,” but did not cite licensing, revenue, server costs, player numbers, or another game-specific cause. Video Games Chronicle quoted the statement: “We have made the difficult decision to sunset Tapped Out.”

EA’s general service-shutdown policy says older online services can become infeasible as audiences decline. It describes a typical threshold of fewer than 1% of peak online players across EA titles. That is general company context, not a disclosed player-count statistic or stated explanation for Tapped Out specifically.
