3. Test The Sims 4 without Mods
Disable Mods and check whether the game works in a clean state. In Steam, open Library, select The Sims 4, open Properties, choose Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files. Steam recommends verification when a game crashes or content is missing. 5. Try a different Proton compatibility tool
In the game’s Steam Properties, open Compatibility, enable the option to force a compatibility tool, and try the latest Proton version available in the list. 7. Leave Proton-prefix resets as a last resort
Some community discussions suggest deleting Proton files, but the official Steam guidance reviewed does not confirm that as a Sims 4 crash fix. A reset or reinstall may affect local data or configuration. Back up your saves before considering either, and do not treat deleting compatibility data as a routine or proven step.
