EA’s official The Sims 4 Marketplace combines a new virtual currency, Moola, with a storefront for approved creator-made content. Moola does not pay for everything: the currency and purchase method depend on the item and where you shop. EA’s Maker Program is a separate application route for creators who want to publish custom content in the Marketplace and earn revenue from sales.
What is The Sims 4 Marketplace?
The Marketplace is EA’s official storefront for downloadable The Sims 4 content, including approved Maker Packs created by members of EA’s Maker Program and content from the Sims team. EA says the Marketplace is intended to offer a larger, more frequently updated catalog; that is the company’s stated rationale, not a guarantee about how often any particular category will receive new items. EA’s Marketplace overview describes the service and its content.

EA launched the Marketplace in-game for PC and Mac on March 17, 2026. EA also describes Marketplace availability across PC, Mac, and consoles, but says console rollout is phased and will be announced ahead of time. The current EA Help Marketplace guide says console players can browse the Marketplace on the web but must make purchases in-game. PC and Mac players can purchase on the web as well as in-game. Check EA’s current platform notices for console availability rather than assuming a specific launch date.
What is Moola, and what can you buy with it?
Moola is the Marketplace’s virtual currency, but it is not the only way to pay. EA says which currency you need depends on the content type and purchase location:

| Where you shop | Content | Payment method stated by EA |
|---|---|---|
| In-game Marketplace | Maker Packs and select Kits | Moola |
| In-game Marketplace | Other Kits | May require real-world currency |
| In-game Marketplace | Expansion Packs, Game Packs, and Stuff Packs | Real-world currency |
| Marketplace website or EA app | Maker Packs | Moola |
| Marketplace website or EA app | Other listed content | Real-world currency |
These purchase options are described in EA Help’s Marketplace guide. In particular, do not assume every Kit can be bought with Moola, or that every item is available through every storefront. Console players cannot buy or download Marketplace content on the web; they need to transact in-game.
EA says Moola is intended to make purchases smoother across platforms and regions. Its Marketplace FAQ puts the rationale this way: “Moola helps make buying Maker content quick and seamless directly in-game, without extra steps or redirects.” That is EA’s explanation of the currency, not an independent assessment of whether it is more convenient for every player. EA’s Marketplace FAQ has further details.

How does the Sims 4 Maker Program work?
EA defines Makers as creators who design 3D game assets, also called custom content (CC), for The Sims. The program offers accepted creators a route to submit work for the official Marketplace. EA describes the process as an application, a technical evaluation, and—if accepted—publishing Packs and earning revenue from sales. See EA’s Maker Program page and EA Help’s application guide.
Who can apply?
EA’s current eligibility criteria require applicants to be at least 18, proficient in English, have an EA account in good standing, and not live in an EA-embargoed region. Applications include two assets for technical review. EA specifies different source-file and image requirements for Create a Sim and Build/Buy submissions, so applicants should use the current instructions in its Maker Program application guide rather than treating the two content categories as interchangeable.

What happens after acceptance?
Accepted Makers can publish Packs through the official Marketplace and earn revenue from sales, according to EA. The public EA pages cited here do not specify a sales percentage, payout formula, or expected earnings. They also do not establish an affiliate commission or tracked referral program for Marketplace purchases, so creator revenue should not be mistaken for an affiliate offer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Maker Program the same as the Sims Creator Program?
No. EA Help distinguishes the Maker Program from both the Sims Creator Program and the EA Creator Network. The latter programs serve creators who cover content and may provide benefits, resources, or early access. The Maker Program is for specialists who create custom content using official tools and resources. EA says Makers may also offer custom content elsewhere, but work sold elsewhere is not eligible for sale through the Maker Program.
